Production Information Original list price: $25,960 The History GMC was the creation of William “Billy” Durant, founder of General Motors. The Rapid Motor Vehicle Company, founded in 1901 in Detroit was one of the first makers of commercial trucks and was purchased by Durant in 1909. The History
GMC was the creation of William “Billy” Durant, founder of General Motors.
The Rapid Motor Vehicle Company, founded in 1901 in Detroit was one of the first makers of commercial trucks and was purchased by Durant in 1909. This company was the basis for the General Motors Truck Company from which GMC would evolve. Also purchased in 1909 was the Reliance Motor Company, another maker of trucks. The two companies were merged in 1911 and by 1912 their products were wearing the GMC logo.
In the following decades GMC and its GM sibling, Chevrolet, have developed as virtual twins of each other.
In recent years the GMC Sierra has been a virtual twin to the Chevrolet Silverado with only minor differences in trim and features to distinguish the two.
GMC Sierras, like their Chevrolet counterparts are available in a variety of cab sizes and bed lengths. Two and four-wheel drive versions are offered with a wide choice of V-6 and V-8 engines.
Our featured truck is a Sierra 1500 with a regular cab and standard size (short) bed. This is a two-wheel drive model with the optional 4.8L V-8 engine and automatic transmission.
The truck has power assisted front disk/rear drum brakes with ABS. It also has power steering with a tilt-adjustable steering wheel, air conditioning, AM-FM stereo with four speakers, intermittent wipers, and a cargo area light.
This truck also features a camper shell providing full weather protection and security for the bed.
