Always near the top of the line in Cadillac's line up, it was also the longest running American personal luxury car. This generation ElDorado has been a favorite in Hollywood being used in multiple films such as Dolemite, Superfly, Highwaymen, The Mack, Willie Dynamite, Magnum Force, The Devil's Rejects, and even the James Bond film Live and Let Die. It was also used in the 1973 Indianapolis 500 as a pace car. The name "El Dorado" was proposed for a special show car built in 1952 to mark Cadillac's Golden Anniversary. Eldorado, derived from the Spanish words "el dorado" translate to "the gilded one" or "the golden one". In English, the name was originally given to the legendary chief or "cacique" of a South American Indian tribe. Legend has it that his followers would sprinkle his body with gold dust on ceremonial occasions and he would wash it off again by diving into a lake. The name more frequently refers to a legendary city of fabulous riches, somewhere in South America, that inspired many European expeditions, including one to the Orinoco by England's Sir Walter Raleigh. With a history and legend behind the name like this, one can understand the allure of owning an ElDorado. Offered For Sale by the California Automobile Museum A 1973 Cadillac ElDorado Convertible. Coming complete with the dancing Hula Girl mounted to the dash, and a flying goddess hood ornament, you can live out your 1970s fantasies in this massive, long, sleek, General Motors Land Yacht. This is a nice solid restoration candidate. There are no signs or rust or any major body damage. All of the panels appear to be solid minus the bumper fillers. (replicas available thru aftermarket companies)It is nearly complete and still in original form. It starts and drives very well, and it has undergone some recent maintenance services. Most of the Cadillac's systems function properly including the scissor convertible top. There is a light rattle coming from the right front when driving and hitting bumps. Also on hard turns there is clicking (light) coming from the right front axle. The clock is no longer functioning as well as the washer fluid pump/circuit. The motor for the electric seats operates but the seat does not move. The dash mounted remote stick for the passenger side mirror does not operate correctly and the power door locks do not respond to the switch. The two rear electric windows need assistance when raising (possible off track) and some of the vent registers in the dash are cracked. As the photos show, the interior is rough and the paint is not quite the best but as mentioned, it seems to be a very solid complete restoration candidate. The Cadillac Eldorado. Always near the top of the line in Cadillac's line up, it was also the longest running American personal luxury car. This generation ElDorado has been a favorite in Hollywood being used in multiple films such as Dolemite, Superfly, Highwaymen, The Mack, Willie Dynamite, Magnum Force, The Devil's Rejects, and even the James Bond film Live and Let Die. It was also used in the 1973 Indianapolis 500 as a pace car. The name "El Dorado" was proposed for a special show car built in 1952 to mark Cadillac's Golden Anniversary. Eldorado, derived from the Spanish words "el dorado" translate to "the gilded one" or "the golden one". In English, the name was originally given to the legendary chief or "cacique" of a South American Indian tribe. Legend has it that his followers would sprinkle his body with gold dust on ceremonial occasions and he would wash it off again by diving into a lake. The name more frequently refers to a legendary city of fabulous riches, somewhere in South America, that inspired many European expeditions, including one to the Orinoco by England's Sir Walter Raleigh. With a history and legend behind the name like this, one can understand the allure of owning an ElDorado.
Offered For Sale by the California Automobile Museum
A 1973 Cadillac ElDorado Convertible. Coming complete with the dancing Hula Girl mounted to the dash, and a flying goddess hood ornament, you can live out your 1970s fantasies in this massive, long, sleek, General Motors Land Yacht. This is a nice solid restoration candidate. There are no signs or rust or any major body damage. All of the panels appear to be solid minus the bumper fillers. (replicas available thru aftermarket companies)It is nearly complete and still in original form. It starts and drives very well, and it has undergone some recent maintenance services. Most of the Cadillac's systems function properly including the scissor convertible top. There is a light rattle coming from the right front when driving and hitting bumps. Also on hard turns there is clicking (light) coming from the right front axle. The clock is no longer functioning as well as the washer fluid pump/circuit. The motor for the electric seats operates but the seat does not move. The dash mounted remote stick for the passenger side mirror does not operate correctly and the power door locks do not respond to the switch. The two rear electric windows need assistance when raising (possible off track) and some of the vent registers in the dash are cracked. As the photos show, the interior is rough and the paint is not quite the best but as mentioned, it seems to be a very solid complete restoration candidate. We tried to cover all known issues with the car but may have missed some. Please do not hesitate to call or email with any questions.
