Vehicle Detail
You are bidding on a very nice British Racing green 1968 MG MGC-GT. This was my wife's grandfathers car that he bought new and drove back and forth to Wright Patterson Air Force Base from Beavercreek Ohio (about a 15 mile run each way). He parked it in 1991 and it sat in heated indoor storage until early this spring when I bought it from the estate (the car was willed to a grandson and I bought it from him). I have enjoyed driving this this summer, but now it is time to start the cosmetic work and I just don't enjoy that as much. I also have my eye on a new project, so this must go. This car is a real pleasure to drive. It has a torsion bar front suspension and a large in-line six cylinder with dual carbs. It shifts smoothly up and down through the gears, overdrive works well. Brakes are very good. Shocks, bushings and springs are good. All lights work (turn signal does not cancel, but I have a new switch from Moss to fix this). This car needed a bit of everything to get it going. I had a lot of the work done by Steve Miller of MG Automotive in Kettering. He only works on British cars and is an MG specialist. The car received: 4 new Mastercraft tires, with new tubes and bands 185/65R15. New wheel nuts with ears. New rear brake shoes and wheel cylinders. New MGB brake master cylinder (converted to MGB system due to the problematic dual booster system the MGC had, we left the boosters in place, but not hooked up). The brakes work great now. New battery. New Axle straps. New high and low horns. New clutch slave and master. Oil and filter change. Carbs rebuilt. Radiator flushed. New thermostat. New fuel filter and a gas tank flush. Starts easily, runs very good. The body is quite good, with a spot of rust on the lower forward portion of both doors. The passenger side lower front fender needs a patch panel for which I have a new one from Moss. I also have a new patch panel for the passenger side dog leg on the quarter panel. This is the only metal work the car will need. Rocker panels look very good. The floors are great. There is a bit of surface rust in the spare tire area. Underneath the car looks very good. There is a bit of surface rust on the driver's side rail (see photo), but it is superficial. Overall the car is in very good shape, needing a light repaint. The interior is in good shape. The front seats need reupholstered, but I have the new seat covers from Moss as well as one cushion for the bottom (passenger seat looked a bit soft so I ordered a new cushion). Headliner is excellent, door panels very good. Rear seat looks very good. Carpet is not bad either. Gauges work good except: the tachometer doesn't work sometimes, but if you tap it once lightly it starts working just fine. The oil pressure gauge works sometimes, sometimes not... I replaced the sending unit, but I think the gauge is faulty. Oil pressure is fine. Lots of top-end oiling when we adjusted the valves and no unusual noises in the engine. New uninstalled parts included: underhood isulation pad, one front seat cushion base, black front seat upholstery with white piping, Passenger side front fender patch panel, rear quarter patch panel, new front brake hoses, dash cover, new door seal, new rear hatch hinge covers, new turn signal, new back up light lenses, new chrome side strips. Used parts included, but not installed: 2 stock steering wheels, 2 aftermarket steering wheels (one mounted on car), one set of dog ear wheel nuts, one set of eared wheel nuts, stock air cleaner, 2 carb adjustment tools (air meters), Jack, bag and wheel hammer and wrench. This is an overdrive car. Overdrive is available in both 3rd and 4th and works great with nice positive engagement. Transmission drips a bit of oil, it needs a new crush washer on the drain nut. I gave the wrong miles when I had the title transferred to my name. I told the lady 63,541 instead of 53,541. It now shows 54,519 and I have driven the car 978 miles since we went through it and got it running good. I do not think the odometer has rolled over, but it does say non-actual miles on the title. This is a great, rare and rapidly appreciating British sports car. An easy restoration project that will give years of pleasure. Come see it in person before you bid if you wish. The car is located in Springboro, Ohio and will be for LOCAL PICKUP ONLY. If you have a commercial car hauler pick it up I will be glad to work with them, but they must get it here. No trades please. E-mail any questions. THANKS!
