Vehicle Detail

1978 Plymouth Fury Coupe First, before we discuss the car listed, a little history on the Plymouth Fury. The first year for the Plymouth Fury under the design lead of Virgil Exner was 1956. This car was outfitted in white with gold trim. The next year the Plymouth Fury again was a 2-door hardtop outfitted with white and gold trim and the same for 1958. The Plymouth Fury made a real name for itself as a fast sports touring car and that is the legend that it kept until its very last year of 1978 when the last Plymouth Fury was made. The Fury is to Plymouth what Corvette is to Chevrolet. It is the iconic car that Chrysler had Virgil Exner design for Plymouth to draw the buying public into the dealerships usually not to afford the high level Plymouth Fury but just to get them in so they could sell them a mundane 4-door sedan, six cylinder. From the Plymouth sales record it looks like the strategy worked. So you have the first year Plymouth 1956 and 22 years later the 1978. The car that you see before you is a last year Plymouth ‘Fury coupe’ (really a hardtop). It is running the legendary Plymouth 318 cubic inch V8 engine with a Torqueflite ‘904’ three speed automatic transmission and a lock-up torque converter all original to this car. The axle ratio is 2.40 for high speed driving. The history on this particular car is known from its very first day and it was purchased from Fairview Chrysler Plymouth Inc. The car is well accessorized with power steering, power brakes, wheel opening moldings. The car also has a full size spare. Blacked out grille. Halogen headlights and driving lights. The dealer substituted the JVC receiver for the factory AM radio; it also came with three way speaker system. Auxillary engine cooling fan was added as a factory option. This was a one owner until 2003, unrestored vehicle with factory paint and body panels (just look how fresh this paint looks on the under side of the trunk lid) and has been over the years driven by the current collector once or twice a month weather permitting. The car has basically never seen rain or snow. The car had no convenience or appearance modifications. It has the original matching numbers engine and transmission. The current owner has a current title in his name ready to be signed over to the new owner. This is a wonderful car to take long range trips to car shows and the car is fully prepared to travel to New York to Los Angeles. Lets face it this is a particularly good looking design that filtered down from Chrysler’s top designer, Virgil Exner and I personally like it with the small hubcaps and trim rings it gives the car a special look. The interior is hard to tell that it is not brand new. Keep the following in mind, it is an extremely handsome car, original paint, original interior, almost in mint condition with unbelievably only 43,647 original miles with all the conveniences of a Chrysler V8 engine, automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes and all of the other extras and a reserve that is shockingly low! For the Fury model that was introduced and kept as Plymouth’s premium car. This 1978 Plymouth Fury coupe was the last year that Plymouth produced a Fury. This two owner car was purchased from the original owner in Sept. 2003.
