Vehicle Detail
For Sale is in my opinion a very nice 1974 Honda CR-125 Motocross Bike. I've owned it and it's sat in my garage for at least 12 and maybe even 15 years or so...As it has been sitting in the garage for a number of years. The carburetor was recently cleaned as it wasn't running right last time we started it about 3-4 years ago. Got the Carb. all cleaned out the right way a month or so ago and rode it about the neighborhood and man it really rips!! I forgot how fast these were.. I weigh 190 lbs. now (Of course I wish I still weighed 135 lbs. and it was 1974 again...!!) and the front tire was coming off the ground through 3rd and I wasn't really pushing it! I had acquired it and intended to have my son learn on this at first but once it finally got cleaned up and running right this past month he was now too big and it was too nice to give him as beginner. SO with that I'll try to go over everything to give you a clear idea of what condition different portions of the machine are in... Frame, Clean with no breaks or bends on it. Had a new coat of paint on it about 8-10 years ago with no use other than riding around the block a few times since painted.. Engine, Engine is really strong and has great compression. I believe it is on standard bore but am not exactly sure as it's been at least 10 years since I looked. As mentioned it revs all the way up and down with no loading... Their is one fin up around the spark plug hole that has been partially (about 2 inches) broken. All other fins on cylinder and head are fine. Ignition is original and clean with no rust and was never blasted. Original patina is on the ignition and it has not seen any water as far as I can tell.. Believe it was a 75 head and cylinder put on it to get the added low end and power it provided. No chain damage I could see... New air cleaner foam has been fabricated for this and installed. Strong 9/10 in the engine dept... Really nice... Pipe- Race pipe is solid with no rust... Never had any rust.. Side dents were repaired and there is a repair around the head to strengthen it. Bottom is dent free which is unusual look at pics.. Silencer is pretty clean with a few small dents on the front bottom about half the size of a dime... The silencer needs to be repacked and the cage retacked to the inner cone but you'll have to figure that out. There was a few drops after the change left on the drain plug that dripped onto the pipe right after change. Oil drips on the pipe in one of the pics were from me draining and replacing the tranny oil right before taking the pics.. This bike does not leak though...! I'll wipe them off before sending it... Pipe is 8+/10 for a race pipe! It's ready to go!!Tank and plastic. Tank and plastic repainted with new decals. Tank was pretty straight to start with and had at least 5 coats of PPG and then clear coated with several more coats put on it to last for racing. When the tank was stripped it was checked for leaking and the rear tab professionally reinforced welded to insure it would never leak ever as this is a weak spot for 74 CR 125 race bikes. Unfortunately when the Green top stripe was added by the gentlemen who painted it he neglected the silver stripe between the green and black stripe. Since it was a race tank I just left it as he painted it. Paint job on tank is 6+ of 10 for a racing tank as there are also some paint blemishes and the base coat prep work was not precise as I told him it was not for show. There is one small eraser sized chip in the green field that I picked up in the garage somehow. Inside of tank was cleaned of light rust and could be jelled if you wanted or left as is as it's just fine as long as you leave gas in it and use it.. It wasn't bad to start with but I just wanted to note I cleaned it out.... Both side panels repainted and new decals added. One panel needed plastic repair. New OEM Honda rubber panel bands. Again these are race panels but the work is nice... 8/10 on the panels...Seat- Original Seat with OEM cover and foam. Has a 3-4 small tears and eraser sized tears you can see in the pics but it is solid and raceable.... No rust in pan and Original paint on the base is very nice and glossy still!!!... Foam is nice and soft and I think this is overstated a little just because of the small tears. 5+/10 on the seat...Forks.. Straight and no rust with very light pitting on a small area of the tubes. Lowers are fine and seals seem good though they should probably be replaced... 8/10 on the forks..Rear Shocks.. Nice shape with dampening and do not leak.. Shafts are straight. A couple of cooling fins on the chain side have been lightly clipped when the chain popped off at some points. 8+/10 on the shocks...Controls.. Little bit of rust at the connecting point of the bars but otherwise they are clean and pretty straight... Cables are fine but have a little wear here and there.. Rear brake cable same condition... Controls and cables 7/10..Wheels.. Front and back wheels are pretty straight though they could use a tuning and a little spoke truing as I've never done it.. No cracks in rims I could see. Spokes have light to medium light rust and could use a little attention though... Rubber is fine on both tires... 6/10.. That's about it.. If you are looking for a museum piece then this is not the bike. If you re looking for a bike you could race in local vintage or ARHMA races then this is a good candidate that will need little or nothing to get there.Buyer is responsible for pick up or shipping.
