Vehicle Detail
Here's your chance to own a rare and classic Pontiac "Wide Wagon". If you are reading this listing then you know the survival rate for Station Wagons is very low. Up for sale is a very rare and very special 1967 Pontiac Executive Safari 2 seat wagon that is LOADED. This is a true CA car with absolutely NO RUST. It was built in the Southgate CA plant and spent all of its life here in Southern California. From the looks of it, it has always been garage kept. The engine and trans are both the original so it is numbers matching, as is all the sheet metal. I have owned the car for about ten years. I bought it from a friend that is also a Pontiac collector. He had owned it since 1996 and got the car from, I believe the original owners (see story below). What makes this car so unique is that it is LOADED with a lot of rare factory options that you would normally find on a Cadillac, but not on a station wagon. I have the PHS docs for the car. There were only 5,903 two seat Executive Safari Wagons made, making this a very rare find. Here is a list of the FACTORY options that are original to the car: V8 400 ci with two barrel carb “Turbo Hyda-Matic “ automatic transmission Power Steering Power Brakes “Auto-Temp Control” Air Conditioning AM/FM pushbutton radio Power Rear Antenna Power Windows Power Rear Tailgate Window Power Door Locks Tilt Steering Wheel Power Front Bench Seat Split-Section Rear Seat (ultra rare!) “Guide-Matic” automatic headlights (on a wagon!!) Remote Driver Side Mirror Passenger Side Mirror Soft-Ray tinted Windows Deluxe Seat Belts The car starts, drives and runs great. It loves the highway and lives up to it’s “wide track” heritage. When my friend owned the car he had quite a bit of mechanical work done on it, so the following things have been addressed: timing chain and gears, rebuilt carb, rebuilt steering gear box, front end rebuilt that included center link, tie rod ends, idler arms, starter, alternator, brakes including master cylinder, shocks, motor mounts, heater core, water pump, and fuel pump. I had the car repainted in 2003 the correct “Montreux Blue” metallic. The paint job is not perfect, but very, very nice. I also had a complete exhaust system done in ’08 and converted it to dual exhaust. It’s a little throatier than stock, but not super loud. I also had the wide Body Side Molding restored with the light colored woodgrain. The full body side woodgrain that is from the beltline down is still the original. It is in good presentable shape, but has a number of flaws. If you look at it from more than a foot away it looks fine, but if you get up close you will see it’s been patched and touched up. Because of the sharp contours of the lower doors, I decided to keep it original. The car has never been wrecked. When I got the car these was a dent in the passenger side fender where it looked like the car had a minor run-in with a parking lot pole. That was repaired when I had the car painted. There is a small scrape at the bottom of the driverside front fender, a small scrape behind the passenger side rear wheel. These are not really noticeable from a few feet away. The interior is all original and in pretty amazing shape. The dash-pad is perfect. The Lucite steering wheel is perfect. The seats are all original with no rips or tears with the exception of the piping on the driver’s side. All the door panels are near perfect with the exception of the driver’s side arm rest, which has two small tears. The front carpets are original and are fine but could use some freshening up. I replaced all the carpet in the cargo area. The headline is in great shape with the exception of an inch and a half tear on the rear passenger side. There are a couple of small nicks in the rear cargo area, but they are not very noticeable. The car is rust free. There is NO rust in the trunk/cargo area and the floor pans are perfect. Completely solid quarters, doors and doglegs. The frame is rust free as well. This is one of those true CA cars that are rock solid. The rear bumper is original and in presentable shape. The front bumper is also original but could use a re-chrome, but again, not rusty. All the trim and bright work and rocker panel moldings are in great shape, but could use a good polish, especially the rear tailgate piece. The original hubcaps have been upgraded to the deluxe “spinner” wheel covers that were a correct option for the Executive. They are all in great shape. Power seat works. All power windows and rear window work fine, although a couple are a little slow. Unfortunately there is a nasty scratch in the rear tailgate window where it rubbed when going up and down, but I think it could be buffed out. Power antenna works great. Power doors locks work, but are sluggish. AM/FM is working fine, but recently the dash speaker went and needs to be replaces. Headlights, wipers, signals all are in working order. A/C is all there, but not working. Probably needs the compressor rebuilt. Blower motor seems to be working ok. The engine idles and runs good. There is a little valve noise and it does burn a little oil, but seems to still have plenty of life left. The mileage shows at 98,704 and it is original and has not turned over. Overall this is a very presentable, very rare car that belongs in the hands of another collector that will appreciate the originality of the condition. You could show it and enjoy it as is, or with a little work it would be a good candidate for true show car. I would be happy to answer any questions and the car can be available for inspection and test drive. I also have more pictures available. If you message me you phone number I would be happy to call you as well. I am not a broker or dealer. This is my personal collector car that I’ve owned for over 10 years. Please contact me before bidding if you have less than a 10 item feedback score. I would require a $1,000. deposit via PayPal within 24 hours of the close of the auction and full payment within 7 days. I would be happy to deliver it to the LA area DAS shipping depot if you choose to go that route. Sorry to see her go, but time for someone else to appreciate her. I also have the car for sale locally, so reserve the right to pull the auction if she sells. Thanks for looking and happy bidding. One final note: this car has never been wrecked or stripped. However it does have a CA salvaged title. Unbelievably in 1996 the original owners of this collector quality all original car turned it in to a wrecking yard as part of an early 90s UnoCal clunker program. The car was turned over to the “Memory Lane” here in Los Angeles. They had the good sense to not part it out and put it in their collector’s sales yard. My friend bought it from them. Because the transaction went through the program the car had to have a salvaged title with the DMV (and the original black plates destroyed!) I have the original paperwork to substantiate this . On Jun-01-11 at 23:47:20 PDT, seller added the following information: I will be adding some videos of the car to YouTube over the next few days.
