Vehicle Detail
This auction is for a 1962 Dodge Dart 440 four door sedan. This Dart has just over 44k miles. The vehicle has a clean title. The miles are original as I have numerous Utah State Highway Patrol inspection receipts verifying the mileage in the 1970s as it progressively increased throughout the years up to where the mileage is today. The mileage receipts start from the early 1970s which start at about 30k and currently show 44k miles. The previous owner told me he purchased the vehicle from the son of the original owner. Apparently the couple who owned the vehicle was elderly and could not drive anymore. He also told me the original owners purchased the car in Los Angeles in 1962, and lived there until the early 1970s when they moved to Utah. As previously stated, it is a 440 trim level and is a four door sedan. It has a 318 poly with a push button automatic transmission. One advantage of the poly wide block engine is that you can install a big block Dodge engine into the car and still use the transmission and it will bolt right up. I did this high school and it is a fairly easy swap. The car also has what looks like dealer installed air-conditioning. The compressor is a York which is period correct for the car. I do have a receipt dated 7-6-09 for $277.75 showing the installation of a Freon retro kit which allows the AC system to operate on 134A Freon. The AC does blow ice cold air. Every couple of months you need to add a pint or so of Freon as it must have a small leak somewhere. As the car has been at my Florida home for the last 1-1/2 years, the AC worked great every day. Since I have moved the car to Wisconsin, the AC Freon does occasionally need a can or so of Freon. I also have a receipt dated 9-21-08 for $411.00 for the rebuild of the Stromberg carburetor on the car. On 2-21-09 a dual exhaust was installed. It has 2 Magnaflow mufflers and stainless tips. I have the receipt which was $614.41 for the complete exhaust system. There is a lifetime warranty on the mufflers. The front end was aligned and I have a receipt for $111.27 which was done on 6-17-09. I have a print out from the shop which gives all the settings of the caster, camber, etc. of the front end. At this time also the front wheel bearings were repacked which is also on the receipt. The previous owner had the original date coded alternator rebuilt on 7-24-08 and I have the receipt showing $84.10 for the rebuild. The car does have power steering and works good. The paint is weak and has some spots of cracking paint, but is still presentable. There are a few small spots (dime size) in which the paint has worn off and has very light surface rust but is very minor and has not weakened the metal whatsoever. The body overall is in excellent condition with no apparent rot. I had a body shop look at the vehicle and put it on a lift and told me there were no patch panels or rust repair ever done to the vehicle. They told me the doors never had any rust repair nor did the quarter panels. They also told me the fenders have never been patched. The original AM radio is intact and works well. The wipers, heater, blower motor, defrosters, signals, horn, lights (even the interior dome) work. I never fully used the emergency brake, but I did push it in a few clicks and it did release. The glass is all good and not cracked and appears to be tinted. All the stainless steel body molding is intact and in excellent condition, but not perfect. The head light housings, tail light housings, and the pot metal vents on the rear quarter panels are in excellent condition with little or no pitting. All the emblems are in tact and in very good condition. The bumpers are in excellent condition with no rust, peeling or dents. The front grill is in excellent condition. I feel the worst part of the whole car is the tachometer that the previous owner installed on the steering column. The tachometer can be easily removed as it is held on by a hose clamp. The interior is in very good condition for its age. It is all original. The front bench seat on the driver’s side does have a small tear about 4 inches in length. There are stains on the front and rear seats but are minor and May clean up with some carpet cleaner. The previous owner did locate the original factory seat material fort the seat and back rest. A sample is included with the vendors address and phone number. The headliner and door panels are in very good condition. The dash is in excellent condition, unmolested and all the gauges work. The tires are in very good condition and have four of its original hub caps. Two of the keys for the doors and ignition appear to be original. The previous owner told me that the original spare is still attached to the spare tire rim. It looks original and the tread is excellent. I did not check the DOT serial number to verify this, but it does look original. The jack and all parts are original and all are intact and in excellent condition. The trunk floor is in excellent condition with no apparent rust, but I did not remove the entire mat. Underneath looks excellent. The trunk lid on the inside is near perfect with no rust on any seams and still has the jacking decal in place and is in excellent condition. The trunk even has the cardboard liners that are on the inside of the quarter panels and wheel wells. The cardboard liners are perfect and are not water stained, torn or cut. One small defect with the car is the driver’s door lock. If you play with it, the key does go in. If you play with it some more, the lock will work. The lock should be replaced. Also I have noticed that when the vehicle sits, it does leak a spot of transmission fluid on the ground. I was told it will probably need a new transmission pan gasket. The car runs, shifts, stops and steers the way it should. When the car was in Florida the engine never ran hot or overheated. Even with the AC on high. The radiator does not leak and it looks like a four core, but not positive. As far as documentation goes, I do as previously state numerous Utah State Highway Patrol inspection reports that documents the mileage. I also have a copy of the original owners original Utah when they moved to Utah in 1972. I also have the original FrigiKing owner’s manual for the air-conditioner. I also have the original 1962 Dodge Dart owner’s manual. The previous owner gave me a very unique large magazine ad which advertises the 1962 Dodge Dart versions available. I also have a 1962 Chevron map for California. The previous owner purchased an original 1962 Dodge news magazine which is dated February 1962. The magazine has articles in it, but is dedicated to the 1962 Dodge Dart and has a lot of info and pictures of the 1962 Dodge Dart. The previous owner told me he paid over 200.00 dollars for it on eBay. It is pretty cool. The vehicle is available for inspection and would encourage interested parties to examine the vehicle prior to bidding. While it is impossible to cover every issue or part of the vehicle, I have done my best to give an accurate and honest description and account of this vehicle. Any information left out is not intentional. I will try to answer all emails on a timely basis. You can also reach me at 813-545-1011 if you would like to know more about the vehicle. If I do not answer, leave a message and I will call you back as soon as possible. A five hundred nonrefundable deposit is required with 48 of close of auction. I do prefer PayPal for the deposit. The remaining balance is due within one week of close of auction. Final payment can be made by PayPal, cashier’s check, money order or cash (in person). Vehicle will not be released until funds clear. No exceptions. The vehicle is located in Muskego Wisconsin. The title is an open title and still titled in Utah. The reserve is $5000.00. If does not meet the reserve, I may let the vehicle go to the highest bidder. The vehicle is not for sale locally.
