Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a 2001 BMW M Roadster convertible. It is silver with grey/black interior. It has 42,600 miles (mileage may vary slightly if there are any test drives). I have had the car for three years since 32,000 miles. This is a special 1:1,600 version of one of the most cherished BMW's ever produced, and was only made in 2001 and 2002. Has the S54 engine with 315hp. Five speed manual transmission. I have a reasonable buyitnow price of $18,200. One just sold for $17,600 with over 60,000 miles. I realize this car is not perfect. Please don't come and point out every tiny tiny like you're expecting showroom new. If you want perfect, you'll have to spend the $25-30K+ people get for a low mileage one that gets wiped with a diaper daily and faces Spartanburg at night, and has original air in the original tires that are warped from only being driven 500 miles a year. This one has been driven on a regular basis but never abused. Driven enough to be aware if there are any problems with it, and driven enough to keep it lubricated. Driven enough to pick up it's fair share of rock chips and scratches, but still having fairly low mileage. The Good: Runs great. Smooth idle, smooth shifting, no abnormal noises, sounds, clunks, etc.It has ran great since the day i got it with 32,000 miles. Does not burn any fluids. All fluids are full and the brake fluid and antifreeze recently changed. Does not leak fluids from what i can judge on the garage floor or by looking into the engine compartment. No damage to the undercariage from road debri or anything i can see peering under it. No check engine or service lights on. The service indicator has a green bar left. It will need "Inspection II" or "60K service" or whatever BMW calls it in a few thousand miles. The S54 motor is fully stock and unmodified. The small exception is a K&N air filter, and i'll include the K&N recharger kit of cleaner and oil to maintain the filter. Air conditioning blows ice cold. Heat blows hot. Clean Carfax Report. No accidents reported. No door dings. No rips, tears, or scuffs in the soft top (read later about the plastic rear window). Always garage kept, seen rain only a handful of times. Personally, my garage is heated and cooled so it's had extra comfy living the last three years. One way you can tell how much these have been outside is by looking at the rear "M" color logo (see pic). The red band in the three color band has a tendency to turn orange over time with UV light. This is one secret that collectors of these use to determine how much sun the vehicle has seen. Usually, one with more fading has seen less garage time and more sun damage to the paint and convertible top. All electronics work as they should, including windows, power top, power locks, power and heated seats, gauges, stereo, etc. Has an added "Phatnoise" hard drive in the trunk for storing mp3 music. In the trunk is the hard drive connected to factory wiring. The drive can be removed and plugged into your computer via USB cable. "Phatnoise" software is available online i believe. It allows you to organize music by playlist, title, genre, artist, album, etc. It's pretty cool. It comes through the factory BMW head unit, and voices "browsing by Playlist", "classic rock", etc, and allows you to access all your music with the factory controls. Also the head unit still plays regular CD's. Truthfully i've never toyed with the music downloading part, i just kept what the previous owner had loaded. Lots of classic rock like led zepplin, eric clapton, doors, doobie brothers, cream, creedence, chicago, etc. Includes original black tonneau or boot cover for when the top is down. Includes original cloth window cover for when you put the top down to protect the plastic window Includes an added custom plexiglass piece between the driver and passenger headrests. This is a very nice upgrade, it makes the interior quieter and less wind circling through the interior. You also don't pull in leaves, debris, dust, etc. with it installed. Has three keys: Master, Secondary, and Valet. The secondary and valet are unused and were cut by bmw for the previous owner, as he wanted the full set. Has new rear tires: Bridgestone Potenza RE760 with less than 200 miles on them. The front tires have about 14,000 miles on them. There appears to be about 40% remaining tread and they are Bridgestone Potenza S-03. When i had the rear tires installed, they said both sets of brakes had 80-90% left remaining when i inquired about them. Dealer service done at Motorwerks BMW in Bloomington, MN: 10/24/08 34,471 miles : Cooling system flush and refill --- preventive maintenance 11/06/09 38,972 miles : Oil and filter change with synthetic 10W60 10/15/10 41,979 miles : Brake fluid flush and refill --- preventive maintenance The Bad:Even though there are no reported accidents, the hood and front bumper have been repainted at some point. You can't tell a color difference, but there is an orange peel or clearcoat slight difference. Nothing a camera can pick up, and from four feet away you can't notice. I only know to look there because the previous owner was nice enough to point it out being honest with the sale. I'm doing the same for you. Particularly, where the corner of the hood on the passenger side meets the passenger door, there is edge peeling of the paint. No rust or anything, but you can see the small corner of the clear coat and paint missing. Rock chips consistent with age and mileage of the vehicle. Particularly on the low wide bumper they are small but numerous. Nothing noticable beyond a few feet or that i could capture with my camera. I took pics of the couple bigger ones the camera would pick up. Although always adult owned, and not abused or track driven, it has had several owners. Radio clip on the right side of the radio is missing. It is a very small and cheap part, you shouldn't have any problem coming across one. Rearview mirror autodim crystal is broken and it resembles a lava lamp. This is a common issue. I have driven it this way since i bought it. It's a minor annoyance but you can still see everything behind you. Sorry for the camera flash in the picture, it's not as bad as the picture seems. The best fix is a company called sybesma's electronics in Holland, Michigan. I was quoted $90. What they do is drain and remove the crystal and replace it with a mechanical/electrical autodimming system. This is way better than the liquid design. Driver's side plastic seatbelt holder is broken, also a very common z3 and m roadster problem Driver's side wear on the seat from getting in and out of the driver's seat. I would say that the wear is better than what you'd see on others with similar mileage, but still there and worth noting (see pic) Scratches: One about one inch on drivers side rear fender (see pic). One on the front passenger edge of the hood in front of the front wheel about 2 inches long (see pic). Two small dimples in the rear bumper (again, camera couldn't capture) very small one on driver's side rearview mirror (see pic) Minor curb rash scratch on driver's side rear wheel (less than 3 inches long and not deep but it picks up dirt and looks like a black mark). Minor scratches or scuffs on the other wheels, only noticable up close and couldn't get close pictures of. It has power locks, but does not have keyless entry. Not a deal breaker, but it would be nice to have. To have the dealer install it is very expensive though. Occaisionally the kick panel speakers will buzz when you turn the bass up. It comes and goes, and seems to happen more when the top is down (less air resistance inside the car?). The rest of the speakers, tweeters, and subwoofer sound great. A few very small finger nail marks on the driver's side interior near where the door handle is. Again, not very noticable, but maybe worth mentioning. Because i never drive it in the rain, the wiper blades could use changing as i believe they are original. They work, they are just a bit streaky. I remember replacing them on my old z3 was a pain in the rear, and i needed to go to the dealer for the wipers and cut them to size and what not. Rear window has scratches. Also you can see where the bar folds down on it when the top goes down. This is why it's important to use the window cover when you put the top down. Truthfully it doesn't bother me, but it would spruce it up to have a new one. They run $189 shipped on ebay. you need a simple tool and an hour of your time to replace it. REASON FOR SALE:I moved right after buying the car. I used to have a three car garage with plenty of space for it. Now i'm closer into the city with a single car garage, so it dominates the garage. I also have found that with foot issues it is difficult for me to drive it to work in traffic since the clutch is stiff, so i find myself only taking it out on the rare weekends. I am extensively remodeling my house, and my tools have nowhere to go with the M roadster in the garage. I also could use the money toward said house renovations. Finally, i bought a nice road bike and find myself biking to work on the days that would be considered "perfect convertible days." So a combination of all these factors has played a part in the sale. However, i will certainly miss the way this car handles and sounds! Sorry for the long description, but i feel it is necessary to know exactly what you're bidding on. If you have any questions, please email or call BEFORE bidding. Ebay will only let me put 24 pictures, if you'd like any more i can email them, i've probably got another 10 good pictures i would have liked to put in the listing. I am an honest ebayer with 100% positive feedback on many expensive items like electronics, boats, cars, etc. I'm not selling one dollar widgets to get 40,000 positive feedbacks because i am barely capable of sending you something in an envelope. Personally, i think feedback should go by the dollar amount of successful transactions, but that's just my opinion. This is a NO RESERVE auction, and i expect honest and truthful people bidding. Don't lose out by trying to bid last minute. Just think carefully about the MAXIMUM you'd pay and still be happy, and enter it in early. That will save you from getting emotional and doing something (or NOT doing something) you may regret in the last minutes and seconds of the auction. You aren't bidding on the ability to come view it and kick the tires. You are bidding to OWN it. And again, my apologies, but if you have less than 10 feedbacks or less than 95% positive feedback you must contact me before bidding. Your track record is everything when it comes to ebay. I expect a $250 paypal deposit within a day of the auction's close that will be nonrefundable to cover my ebay fees. Remainder is due upon pickup of the vehicle. We will go to the bank together, or i will need to contact your financial institution regarding a cashier's check to confirm it is valid. No international sales or funny stuff. I also don't believe that your long lost uncle needs somewhere to put his millions and all you need is my personal and bank info. Title is free and clear of any liens, and is in my name. I will sign it over to you when the sale is complete. You should contact your insurance agent if you plan on driving it home so that you have proper coverage BEFORE you leave my house. I am willing to drop if off for you at a reasonable distance if you want it shipped, but keep in mind that shipping a roadster can be VERY expensive, as they aren't allowed to strap the undercarriage, it needs to be in and enclosed hauler. I am willing to pick you up from the MSP airport, which is 15 minutes from my house. I am available most nights for any inspections or test drives. I will likely be out of town June 11-12 weekend. If i need to, i can take time off during the week with enough notice if you're coming from out of town. Thanks! -Steve (612)803-1368
