Vehicle Detail
I have up for auction my 2004 Subaru Forester XT. The car has the Subaru 2.5 liter turbocharged 4cyl boxer motor, a 5 speed manual transmission, and all wheel drive with locking differential. I bought this car 6 months ago to replace my 2000 Ford Explorer which had a transmission issue. I bought this used from a Subaru dealer in Jenkintown PA. Up until about 6-7 months ago I knew nothing about turbo Subaru's. But I knew that the trans was slipping in my Explorer and it was time to start thinking about a new vehicle. A chance ride in my nephew's WRX got me interested. I began searching for a used WRX but all I found were young kid owned, ragged out, WRX's. A little additional searching found me a turbo charged Forester. I test drove one at a different dealer but we couldn't come to terms on a price. Then I found this one. I checked it out and bought it that day. One problem, the car is a stick shift and my wife cannot drive a stick. I tried teaching her years ago on my 400 HP Musclecar and it wasn't good. I figured this car would be much easier to learn on but it's no good. She just can't pick up the whole clutch/gas thing and has completely given up. What's happening now is that it's becoming annoying. I constantly have to either park the Subaru in the street or move it for her because she just won't even try anymore. I've decided it's just easier to find another car with an automatic. That being said let me tell you about the car. It's a 2004 Subaru Forester XT. It has the 2.5 liter turbocharged 4 cyl. The trans is a 5 speed manual and it has AWD (all wheel drive). It currently has 103,6XX miles on it but it is my daily driver so that mileage will change as the auction goes along. I can't say enough good things about Subaru. I love the way this car drives. It's nice and calm with normal driving and turns about 20-25 MPG, but if you need to merge into traffic or pull a hill the turbo kicks in and this car pulls STRONG, real strong. The AWD works fantastic, we had a pretty bad winter here in Pennsylvania and not once did I have a problem getting around in this car. I was able to get to work in ice, and snow. We had one pretty good storm here which dumped over 18" of snow and I pulled out of my driveway like it was a sunny day. Very impressive in the snow. The engine runs strong and pulls well. The engine is all stock except for a K&N air filter. I change the oil every 3000 miles. I had heard that turbo Subaru's consume a lot of oil but I've changed the oil twice since I've owned it and have yet to have to add oil in between changes. Of course I only live 7 miles from my job and I don't drive like a lunatic. If you drive this car hard I'm sure just like any car you'd be adding fluids more frequently. Everything I've heard about these 2.5's is that with regular maintenance they can get 200,000 miles easily. The trans shifts great and the stock shifter has Momo knob. I've been driving a stick shift for many years and have had no issues with this trans. It shifts smoothly and the clutch holds extremely well. The drivetrain is just as nice. The AWD works great. To me this car doesn't drive like it has 4WD. When my Explorer was in 4WD, you knew it. It felt differently, but this Subaru cruises along nicely. The car does have a locking differential which is a posi rear for the old school folks. This car is fully loaded. Crusie, tilt, A/C (which blows ice cold) heat blows super warm in the winter. The car has climate control which allows you to select a temperature and the car does all the work. It also has power windows, locks, rear defrost, heated mirrors, seats, and wipers. Everything works too. The only non stock item on the interior of the car is an aftermarket stereo installed by the previous owner. It has an Ipod hook up and a CD player. Included with the stereo is a hand held controller allowing you to control radio functions without reaching for the stereo. The interior is in excellent condition. The seats, carpets, and headliner are all in very nice condition with no rips or tears. All of the windows of this car are tinted. I've never seen another Forester with tinted front windows so I'm assuming that it's aftermarket tint. It's not super dark, you can clearly see what's going on inside the car while standing outside. PA has some pretty strict tint laws and I've never been hassled by a cop. Worst case scenario is if your state is strict, you could peel off the tint on the 2 front windows and leave the rest. Everything works nicely. It turns, handles, and stops very well. The previous owner put drilled and slotted rotors at all 4 corners. It really just drives nice. The car is PA state safety inspected until 8-11. I am going to try to get the car in and have it inspected before selling. It will also sell with a brand new oil change as it is due in about 200 miles. The rest of the car is in very nice condition. The paint still shines nicely. I took some pics and you can see that the front fenders still have the VIN stamp on them. It does have some minor scratches. Please understand that this is a 7 year old car and while the paint shines nicely there are road nicks and some minor scratches in the paint. Nothing major and no dents, just 7 years of daily driving has left it's mark on the paint. I hate to sell this car. It's been a pleasure to drive and is a wolrd of difference from my Explorer. As stated above the stick shift issue has just gotten annoying around my house. My wife has just completely given up on even trying to learn. In her defense, she did tell me before buying the car that she wasn't comfortable with me buying a stick shift. It will be just easier all around if I sell this car and find one that's an automatic. If I've left anything out, please free to ask any questions, I took several pictures but will be glad to take additional pics upon request. I also have a clean and clear PA title in my name. Please understand that the car and the title will not leave my posession until it is paid for in full. If you are paying via cashier's check, the funds must clear my bank before the car will be released.
