LExterior Color: GrayInterior Color: BlackTitle: Clear Description "I will build a car for the great multitude. It will be large enough for the family, but small enough for the individual to run and care for. It will be constructed of the best materials, by the best men to be hired, after the simplest designs that modern engineering can devise. But it will be so low in price that no man making a good salary will be unable to own one – and enjoy with his family the blessing of hours of pleasure in God's great open spaces." Henry Ford Offered By The California Automobile Museum *UPDATE* This Model T was used in a recent parade celebrating the 5th annual Clarksville day. It was driven from our museum in Sacramento Ca. to Clarksville Ca. and back. A round trip of approximately 70 miles. The T ran beautifully with no problems what so ever. The next day a leak was discovered at the water pump so it has been removed and put back to original condition. The pump will be included with the sale. Also, the right front corner of the frame work for the top is cracked. 3 photos at the end show these items. 1926 Ford Model T Runabout. Recently fully restored, (no supporting documentation) and in full running condition, this T is ready to go. Modified in some minor ways from original, this Runabout has a different paint scheme, an added water pump, and is equipped with an electric starter. It is also thought that the material for the headlight rings is incorrect. The engine is a pre 26 engine (based on transmission style) and the numbers are not present or visible on the block. The engine starts easily and runs very well, however as nearly every T does, it leaks. The T still retains its 6 volt electrical system and some additional ground straps have been added to the original design. The engine will run on either battery or mag. The transmission operates properly and the bands are all adjusted properly. Suspension and steering are all good and there is no noticeable play or wobble while driving. The brakes operate as good as possible considering the technology. The spring on the hand engine crank is damaged and will need repair or replacing. The tires seem to be in good condition with no cracking or flat spots but the age is unknown. They hold air pressure and show no signs of issues. The wheel spokes all feel tight and secure and make no noise while driving. The doors and trunk open and close freely and the locks for the trunk and ignition both work with the included keys. The interior is in good shape wth no visible wear, cracks, or splits. The glass has a very small chip in the lower section. The top has a few tears in it around the edges and seams. Aside from those few minor flaws, this is a very nice show quality driver. It has been fully inspected here at the museum by a well known Model T expert and all necessary adjusments and repairs have been completed. * NOTE * This Ford is currently registered with a clean California Title history but WE DO NOT HAVE TITLE IN HAND. The Ford was recently registered to the Museum and the official title has not arrived in the mail. Technical SpecificationsEngine/Driveline Number of cylinders/type: Inline 4 cyl., L-head. Production Information Original list price: $345.00 Number produced: 342,575 The History The buying public was surprised that despite its all steel body, roomy luggage compartment, sweeping rear deck, and sporty but graceful lines, the 1926 Ford Model T Runabout was the lowest priced car in the world. By July, 1926 the fourteen-millionth Model T had been produced. One year and one million Model T’s later, the Model A would replace the T. The $290 base price was in effect from February of 1926, replacing the January price of $260. This Runabout was priced at $345 which included the electric starter and demountable tires. Nickle-plated headlight rims, four cord tires, a self starter, wider doors that opened forward and a wider, longer body were featured. This Runabout is painted a non-standard color. While it is true that Ford began to re-introduce colors to closed-bodied cars in 1926, open cars remained all black and fenders on all models remained black. By 1926 it was obvious to many that Ford was losing sales to competitors like Chevrolet and rumors were spreading that a new Ford was imminent. Interestingly, a letter was sent to dealers in the Chicago area that salesmen responding to customer questions about a new Ford were to quote a statement by Edsel Ford that, “There will be no new model and no new Ford car is going to be introduced. Nor are we planning any six or eight cylinder car.” The letter went on to say, “The Ford car today stands supreme in offering the greatest automobile value and its popularity is ever increasing as indicated by sales totaling over a MILLION AND A HALF so far this year.” Of course the Model A would debut in 1928! "I will build a car for the great multitude. It will be large enough for the family, but small enough for the individual to run and care for. It will be constructed of the best materials, by the best men to be hired, after the simplest designs that modern engineering can devise. But it will be so low in price that no man making a good salary will be unable to own one – and enjoy with his family the blessing of hours of pleasure in God's great open spaces." Henry Ford

Offered By The California Automobile Museum

*UPDATE* This Model T was used in a recent parade celebrating the 5th annual Clarksville day.

The buying public was surprised that despite its all steel body, roomy luggage compartment, sweeping rear deck, and sporty but graceful lines, the 1926 Ford Model T Runabout was the lowest priced car in the world.

Nor are we planning any six or eight cylinder car.”

The letter went on to say, “The Ford car today stands supreme in offering the greatest automobile value and its popularity is ever increasing as indicated by sales totaling over a MILLION AND A HALF so far this year.” Of course the Model A would debut in 1928!
