Vehicle Detail
This is a NO RESERVE auction with bidding starting at $1.00 and this will be a ten (10) day auction. Up for auction is a 1972 Plymouth Cuda 340. This car is located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and has a clear Florida Title. This is a great looking car! The Vitamin C exterior color works great with the white AAR style strobe stripes and the white interior. This car has a great / aggressive looking stance with the new (American Racing) wheels & BFG Radial Tires. This car drives great on local roads and at highway speed. This Cuda fires right up and does not run hot or blow any smoke. All lights (interior & exterior), turn signals, horn, wipers, etc.. function perfectly (see video). The only thing that does not work is the original AM Radio and the AC System. The under hood parts were removed while most of the under dash parts appear complete. This car would be a great local show car or a fun weekend cruiser. It runs great on regular grade pump gas and could be driven anywhere if desired. For the year 1972, only 5864 Cuda's were built with the 340 4bbl. motor. Of that number, 1701 came equipped with the 727 Automatic Transmission. VIDEO LINK SHOWING VEHICLE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySfNW8hGgxA This car is currently equipped with a professionally built 360 motor that was bored .060 over (making it 372 ci) and multiple upgrades (see below). The car is further equipped with Power Steering, Power Front Disc Brakes, Remote Driver Mirror, Auto Tranny, Center Console w/Slap Stik Shifter, 8.75 rear w/Sure Grip & 3.23 gears, AM Radio, Key Buzzer, in-dash mini tachomoter (added), etc.. It was originally an AC car, but the underhood AC parts were removed. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: This Cuda has always resided in the South. The prior (titled) owner purchased the car in Alabama around 2006 and took the car to (North) Florida. At that time, the car underwent a decent quality restoration process and its original exterior / interior colors were changed. The exterior color was changed to a 1970 Chrysler Orange color that is associated with the "Vitamin C" orange Mopar color. The interior was changed over to white at this same time. This car was very solid on the underside frame / rails / floors. This car retains its original (straight) radiator support which still has its body VIN on it. The cowl VIN (see pictures) still retains the VIN stamped into it. EXTERIOR: This car is rust free and features a very solid underside / frame. The paint quality is very good and has a great shine to it. The paint / body work was completed around 2007 and it still looks very good. The car was always stored indoors. I was told that less than 2500 miles were put on the car since then, being driven on weekends and to area car shows. There are some minor chips in the paint from the car being driven, but nothing too bad. The hood is the original metal Cuda Rallye Hood and it does show some small dimples here & there, but again, not too bad. The trunk lid has a scratch in the paint in an area under the spoiler, but you don't really notice it unless you're looking for it. For some reason, the front fenders were replaced with correct fiberglass ones for the 1972 Cuda. You are unable to tell by looking at them as they fit very nice and look like original fenders. I can only assume that the original front fenders were in too bad of shape to work with and not too sure if replacement mertal ones were available at that time. All door / trunk / hood gaps are very nice. The doors open & close solid / perfectly with no sagging. The door glass / windshield / rear glass are all original. They look good, but have some minor scratches and the windshield has a couple tiny road chips. The trunk floor is the only area that I can see that there was a metal patch put in as repair. The trunk interior was then painted body color and had a coating of black substance applied over it for protection. The tires are like new BFG Radial TA's with AR Wheels that are new. DRIVETRAIN: The original 340 motor is no longer with this vehicle. It now runs a complete / professionally rebuilt / upgraded 360 motor that was bored .060 over to increase its cubic inches to "372". It has a Mopar Performance Purple Shaft Cam that is one step above the stock 340 cam specs. It has new Speedpro Pistons on the standard rods / crank. The heads are non-smog type with 3 angle valve job, hardened valve seats and have been slightly ported / matched. The intake manifold is an Edelbrock Dual Plane w/Edelbrock 650 CFM Carburetor. A new oil pump, water pump, alternator & mini starter were added. The exhaust has Flowtech Headers with 2.5" pipes all the way out to the valence. The car is equipped with Vortec Mufflers. The 727 TRansmission was professionally rebuilt with minor modifications to the valve body to increase performance. It has a B&M 2500 RPM Stall Convertor. It also has the correctly installed factory kick-down linkage. The rear end is the 8.75" with a 3.23 Sure Grip center section. *** Please check back with this listing. I will be adding more information within the next day or two as I am short of time at this moment. A $2000.00 non-refundable deposit will need to be placed through Paypal within 48 hours of auction close and the remaining balance paid within ten (10) days unless other arrangements are made. Please make certain that you have all of your funding in order prior to purchasing this car. The car is currently fully insured and I can safely store it for a period of time while the new owner makes transportation / shipping arrangements or flight arrangements if you want to fly in & drive home. I will work with your shipper or pick you up at Fort Lauderdale International Airport (FLL) if you want to fly in for the purchase or a pre-purchase inspection. Please keep in mind that this car is being sold in "AS IS" condition and that there is no warranty, expressed or implied, as to its mechanical limitations, functionality or body condition. The car is in very good condition and I have described it as accurately as possible, but I encourage any potential buyers to inspect or have it inspected prior to purchase for their own peace of mind. The car is located very close to Fort Lauderdale International Airport and a few minutes away from Port Everglades. Please note that I hold a free & clear Florida Title for this car. The title and the car will not be released until all funds have been paid / deposited and have cleared my bank. This goes for certified funds. If you buy the car, and show up with a certified check from your bank, please make certain that there is a branch office of your bank in South Florida. We'll need to go that bank in order to complete the transaction. Bank to bank wiring of funds is best for all parties concerned and might be the best route to take.On May-13-11 at 15:53:46 PDT, seller added the following information: ** I was able to drive the Cuda to a local shop with a lift and take video / pictures of the underside of the car. I'm unable to add additional pictures to the listing, but I'm able to add a video link showing the video I took today (051311). While taking the video, I was able to get a more detailed look at the underside. This car is solid. With the exception of the one patch in the trunk floor (passenger side) that I previously mentioned above, there are no other repairs or replaced floor pans that I could see. The underside looks original with old factory undercoating. It has the normal scale / metal surface condition for a car of this age, but everything that I could check was solid. The pinchwells (I think that's the name) along the bottom edge look to be all original. Please review the attached video of the underside to show how nice / original the condition of the underside is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8sz15qJM4U I will be posting additional information on the Cuda this evening as well as information that will concern current / future bidders that have excessive negative or a zero feedback rating. On May-13-11 at 18:12:56 PDT, seller added the following information: ** I had to cut my listing text short last night as it was getting late and I wanted to start the auction at a reasonable hour of the night. Therefore, I was unable to list additional / important information on the Cuda at that time. The additional information is as follows: INTERIOR: The interior of the Cuda is very nice. The front & rear seats are in great condition. They have no tears or repairs to the covers. As noted above with the exterior color change by the owner back around 2007, the interior color was also changed from green (yuk) to its current color of white. The original door panels are in very good condition and were dyed white to match the white seat covers. The same goes for the kick panels. The headliner is white and is in new condition. The center console and dash were dyed black and are in great condition. The carpet was a new replacement at the same time, but looks like it was not installed properly with adhesive tack spray to keep its molded floor shape. It looks ok, but it does not have the "correct" molded to the floor shape look to it. I have another black carpet set for a 1971 Challenger Convertible that was purchased about eight years ago and never used. It's still in the original box and I'll give it to the new owner if they want it. Not too sure if it will fit the Cuda, but if it does, it will go with the car. All of the dash gauges & lights function properly. The owner added a mechanical oil pressure gauge that sits on the lower / bottom section of the dash. This car maintains great oil pressure (see video). The same owner had a tachometer mounted with a hose clamp to the steering column. Not too big on that look, so I purchased a mini tach that goes in the dash assembly where the clock-delete plate was located. That tachometer was installed and functions as it should (see video). The original AM Radio does not work. The horn works as does all of the lights & turn signals. This car was equipped with AC. It appears that most of the underdash parts are still intact, but the under the hood parts were removed when the NOM was installed. There are some miscellaneous underhood AC brackets, hoses & parts for this car (see picture) and they will go with the car if the new owner wants them. The door & rear quarter glass go up & down w/o any issues. The rubber weatherstripping is original and fair condition. The door glass on both sides seals real good and is complete. The door glass whiskers on the inside of the doors need replacing. The rubber around the doors are in good condition, but there is some paint overspray on the bottom portions around the underside of the door. The interior door handles are original and are starting to show their age. The weatherstripping around the trunk opening is original and has shrunk over the years. There is a brand new / in the package trunk weatherstrip that goes with the car for the new owner. On a final note, the owner had replaced the factory "T" handle slap-stik shifter with one of those $160.00 "Gunslinger" pistol grip shifters. It looks ok and functions fine, but the original "T" handle will go with the car and the new owner can change it back if desired. DATA PLATE / FENDER TAG INFORMATION & BUILD SHEET: This car comes with its original factory build sheet (parts). The owner recovered the build sheet from under the rear seat, but do to age, it's falling apart. He placed the sheet into two clear sheet protectors to keep it from further damage. These will go with the car. As I noted previously, this car still retains its original VIN stamping on the radiator support and on the cowl (see picture). The data plate had corrosion and a replacement was made when the car was painted. Here is the information from the data plate: FENDER TAG 1972 ‘CUDA: R11 V6X 26 EN2 + M31 M88 N23 N41 N42 + G37 H51 J25 J54 M21 M25 V1W U B51 C16 C56 G15 GF3 A6F6 000 425 269091 E55 D34 BS23 H2B 399842 Your decoded VIN information will be listed below. Make: Price Class: Body Type: Engine: Model Year: Assembly Plant: Sequence Number: MISCELLANEOUS: I have a folder of miscellaneous receipts & documents that will go with the car from the owner. These documents include the specs on the engine rebuild and other miscellaneous information. Overall, this is a very nice Cuda that would hold its own at any local / regional car show or event. The color combo is very striking and added with the white strobe side stripes, you'll find that people gravitate to the car while driving on the road or stopped somewhere. It would take very little to correct or fix the few negative items about the car that the average person would not even notice. Namely, the front & rear bumpers look to be the original ones. They both have that weathered chrome look and the rear one looks like it might have been lightly tapped on the right side at one point in its life. You need to look at a certain angle to see what I am speaking about. The lower body side molding is also original and shows its age. It looks very good, but its been on the car / road for nearly forty years. The same goes for the windshield trim. It's ok, but not show quality. The front plastic grille has a small 2" crack in the bottom portion below the driver side headlamp area. Does not look bad and could most likely be glued with epoxy and painted over for a proper fix. Beyond these minor cosmetic issues, there are no problems or issues with this car. It fires right up and does not run hot or leak fluids. This car is a great / fun driver and does not need any mechanical work. BIDDING NOTICE: In my haste to complete this listing last night, I forgot to mention that any new (less than five feedback) bidders or those with negative (non-paying bidder) notations will need to contact me prior to bidding on this Cuda. I will contact those current bidders that are new / no feedback rating and see if they wish to continue bidding after contact is established. This will be done to maintain the integrity of this auction. Any future zero to five feedback bidders that fail to contact me prior to bidding will have their bids removed or blocked. No offense to any new bidders, but I would like to know who is bidding on the car and that all bidders are legit. Thanks for understanding. On May-17-11 at 07:08:29 PDT, seller added the following information: I received a question about a six-pack intake and carburetors having enough clearence under the hood should the next owner want to add that type of set-up on this car. There's enough room under these factory Rallye / Power Bulge hoods to accomodate the required intake / carburetors / air cleaner. The only issue would be the AC compressor should someone want to add the AC parts back under the hood & go with the six pack arrangement. I believe that you would need to go with the smaller Sanden type compressor and / or modify the air cleaner base plate or lower the compressor bracket in order to have if fit properly. Heck, there's nothing stopping the next owner from adding a 440 or a 426 Hemi to this car if they wish. I think the motor cross member & motor mounts are the only changes required for going in that 1970 or 1971 direction. I've attached a copy of a listing showing that the six-pack set ups for the 340 / 360 motors are available and run complete for under $2500.00. This added listing is not part of my auction is is only posted for the benefit of the person that was asking the question about fitment and availability. This Six-pack intake and carburetors shown are not included in my auction. 340-Six Pack Everything you need to get rolling. Completely assembled and ready to bolt on. $2,250.00
