Dry Southwes desert vehicle with no rust! Solid original metal! - Beautiful finish! Paint and body work are exceptional! This car has great eye appeal. - Muscle car machismo! With interior converted to black from the original red, the car has a much tougher look and feel! - Original, stock, 351 C Engine in beautiful condition Just finished cosmetic restoration of a beautiful 71 Mach 1. I bought this car from an upholstery shop owner in Albuquerque, NM. He had redone most of the interior and had the engine tuned up. The exterior is what really needed attention. I do paint and body work so this looked like a good candidate for me. The clear coat was peeling - the jams looked terrible - old body work was cracking out - the hood blackout area was incorrect and poorly done. The car was a good 20 footer. You know the saying - good from far but far from good. I took the car back to bare metal and the original paint.primer in order to do it right. I used quality materials from Matrix systems and DuPont. The car is now beautiful and commands attention. The original interior of the car was "Vermillion" red. The upholstery shop had redone the seats and door panels in black but they had no done the trim or headliner. I finished these items and the interior of the car looks great! Black really should have been the original color instead of red. The red accents set it off nicely. The original Mach 1 steering wheel doesn't real scream muscle so I installed a Grant wheel. I bought the correct adapter so that the ignition lock, blinker cancel, and horn all function as they should. The overall feel of the interior is pure muscle car! I returned the car to it's original Ford color of "Light Pewter Metallic." Red Mach 1 cars are everywhere. How many do you see in this color? The metallic in the paint gives the color and interesting depth. In some light it looks really silver and in other light it has more of a tan/gold look. As you look through the pictures you will notice this. When I painted the hood and rocker areas, I used SEM's "Hot Rod Black" kit to ensure that these areas had the proper satin finish. Lots of Mustangs are not refinished this way. Many paint shops will simply use a high gloss black because it is easier and quicker. It does not have near the eye appeal as the satin paint. The stripe on this car is also the satin finish - not glossy. I made sure to paint the hood blackout area in the correct factory shape for a Mach 1 hood. The pictures will make clear just how nice it all turned out. This car is as dry and rust free as you would expect a Southwest desert car to be. No rust in the trunk - no rust in the floor pans. No rust - period.
