1957 Mercury Monterey 2 dr HT 312 V8 / A/C Az car since new Best color combination made (in my opinion) 66k miles on the clock, could be orig 42,199 built over 50 yrs ago comes with Turnpike Cruiser long style rear fenderskirts, in also rust free condition ! This car is a Work of Art driving down the road AN ERA known for when US Highways and Interstates where being built And something called "the SUBURBS" where rising up all over small town America Low RESERVE bid it to win it ! dont regret you didnt later ! CARS LIVING THEIR LIFE HERE IN THE DRY DESERT CLIMATE ARE SO MUCH NICER THEN ANYWHERE ELSE ! Motor sounds good and Pushbutton trans works nicely. Im sure its probably time for a tune up. Its been in AZ its whole life , was taken off the road back in the 80s because of a few minor issues ie: worn front end bushings various parts. We installed: NEW BRAKE MASTER, RF Wheel cylinder, LF Brake hose too, but would be smart to pull off each drum to check them out if it was put back on the rd. FUEL PUMP: new rebuilt, works great. Currently running off a small tank under the hood. Going to try to get it running from the tank as normal this week. Fuel pick up in tank plugged from sitting. We also rebuilt the Holley carb feeding the motor. Ignition switch is new too. For some reason it wasnt getting power to the coil, so we ran a seperate wire for now so we could start the car with the key. We also had a pair of NOS keys cut for the trunk and ignition since the car came with no keys at all. One of the cool factory options is the SPEED MINDER mounted under the hood. Tires are very OLD and mismatched too. A true un restored AZ MERCURY with mild surface rust on the body and most areas, solid frame etc. Has had one repaint (original color) about 30 yrs ago. This car was parked years ago and only started a few times a yr. and driven around the block. Chrome and stainless Trim still in great shape with NO pitting making restoration less $. Interior: Factory Padded Dash and Lited Glove box with under dash AC AC not working, but all seems to be there. Seatbelts where added years ago, nice touch :) Much of the plastic and vinyl worn, but original and shows its age from the AZ heat. At least 2 or 3 of the side window (flat) glass are cracked. All 4 roll up and down, but could use some lubrication. Would be an realitively easy restoration compared to most cars out there who lived in areas of rust and corrosion. Drive around as is or restore it to its original glory, or somewhere in between. Car is super solid. ORIGINAL Paint and Interior Obviously this is not a restored car. Most of these cars were run into the ground and really USED up as you might expect them to be. This car flew under the wire and is stock as a rock. They are only original ONCE. Anyone can throw shiney paint and a bunch of off the shelf aftermarket parts on a car and say its "restored" But the value for your $ doesnt make worth buying. Early Mercurys like this restored back to the way it came off the showroom, have higher Values hands down. This is a great car to restore 100% and would do so nicely. It is an example of a era long gone. Remember: they arent making anymore :) and has been in Az its whole life. Az gets maybe 12" a yr of rain. The more you go over this car, the cooler it gets !
