Vehicle Detail

You are bidding on a piece of history with this 1971 650 Bonneville Twin. The bike was produced as a demo for the new oil in frame style 5 speed Triumph. I am the third owner, the salesman at the dealership originally purchased it, and before me my brother had it for about a year. On Easter Sunday, almost 40 years to the date it was originally manufactured, while I was getting on the road in 2nd gear the transmission let loose and put a hole in the rear of the case. It has been a long ride for me as I bought this bike back in 1972 and it is like parting with an old friend, but living in the Florida Keys is no place for the bike I grew up with in Maryland, where the roads are windy and hilly. Hopefully the successful bidder will provide a new home for it, and someone who might want to rebuild the engine with a new case and restore it. It would make a great project bike, and for as little as $50 and some labor the engine cases could be replaced. The bike has some rust as you might expect from a 40 year old motorcycle but could easily be brought back to pristine condition. As a little history - the bike was a demo back in 1970 or early 1971. The engine is stamped T120RV, (Vin. # GE27218T120RV) , which according to the article below is very rare? I couldn't confirm the article, or find any info on the "V" that follows the T120R that is stamped on the engine, but the picture featured looks like this bike when I got it. http://www.ajfox.com/motorcycles/1971_Triumph_Bonneville_T120RV.htme When I got the bike I was all about minimalism and dis-guarded the original head light, tail light, turn signals, and original wiring harness. Some particulars about the bike: Engine will need to be rebuilt with new Transmission caseThere is a crack in the frame just behind the seat which is not structural (as shown in the pictures)Engine head was worked by Sonny Route back in the early 70's, and refitted for 34mm Mikuni CarbsCompression is good at about 120lb.s and even Bubb Header SystemCase was filed out to receive a 21 tooth highway gear (probable what led to the demise of the trans)Speedometer and tach were replaced so the milage is not correctSport-Comp oil pressure gaugeCoils, points, condensers, and plugs are newGas Tank is off a 1973 BonnevilleRear Tire is a Dunlop 103/90 - 16 M/G 67H (Hog Wheel)Front Tire is a Dunlop 100/90 - 19 M/G 57HBattery replaced recentlyHead light, tail light, and mirrors are after market I have some other parts and triumph tools that go with it which include the following: New Clutch CableCarb JetsCut down Bubb header system without baffleTail light switchClutch toolsPrimary Chain toolGerman coils (2 used)Condensers (2 used)Break levelSebec steering damperPlug wiresUnused Shift rubber Again it's like getting rid of an old friend, but maybe it is time to move on. I have been looking at KTM and BMW dual purpose bikes for the past couple of years, so maybe this is the time to learn to shift with my left foot, or more important brake with my right. Bike is being sold as is, where is. Bidders are welcome to come and see the bike with proper notice. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer, but I will be glad to help load it once the funds are received. Happy Bidding
