Vehicle Detail

This is a nice classic BMW – solid and fast. Please read everything, do your own research, and think before you send a question. Work your own shipping quotes. Every car has a story...I bought this car from the original owner who lived down the street from me in Southlake, TX. Jerry kept his cars well. He worked for IBM in Dallas and drove it to work. He had covered parking and kept it in the garage at home. He told me he never let anyone else wash it... In 2000, I got divorced and moved to Atlanta to start over. I needed a single guy car and I just happened to run into Jerry when he was getting ready to sell it. I couldn't believe how nice it was - like a new car. I bought it and brought it to Atlanta on a trailer behind my moving truck. Of course, things almost never go as you plan. Right after I got to Atlanta, I fell in love with a totally hot Delta flight attendant. And shortly after that, I rescued an unvelievably great white boxer from some hopelessly inconsiderate, well to do, folks who one day decided they didn't really want the dog any more and chained her to a tree in the back yard. So now, instead of being single, dating, and racing around in a hot BMW, I was helping out with two kids and a dog. So what do you do? There was no way the dog was riding in the BMW. I needed a family car so I put the BMW in the garage (with a dehumidifier) and bought a '93 Pontiac Bonneville at a garage sale for $2000. That was my lot in life. This car has basically been in storage for 11 years. I pulled it out now and then for a short drive to keep it going but never really drove it. I finallly decided to let it go - kind of like letting go of a dream maybe? Hard to do. When I bought the car in 2000 it had 164352 miles on it. It now has 168174. Now, that may sound like a lot of miles but Texas is very spread out so cars pick up highway miles fast. Look at the condition of the clutch and brake pedals and you’ll get the idea…. What's not right with this car - One picture shows the headliner with what looks like a water stain. It's not a water stain. I don't think this car's been out in the rain. Jerry told me he researched it and BMW told him it was caused by the glue bleeding through the fabric. Whether that's true, I don't know for sure. The A/C stopped working about the time I stopped driving it. I don't know why but I would assume the freon leaked out - the usual thing, maybe a bad compressor seal? When I pulled it out to take the pictures, I drained and refilled the gas tank with clean gas (premium, $4/gallon thank you very much Libya and Chevron). I put in a new battery (Autozone, $108) and it fired right up. I took it for a short drive and somewhere along the way, all the gauges - speedo, tach, warning lights, etc all quit except for the temp. gauge. So, they're not working at the moment. I'm thinking they lost their ground or a connector needs to be unplugged and replugged or something like that from sitting so long. The turn signals quit as well. They make a fast clicking noise – bad ground? So the buyer has got to figure on fixing nit-noi electrical issues due to oxidized ground connectors or whatever. I don't guarantee anything electrical except the engine, anti-lock brakes and so on which are all working like they should. The engine has an oil check valve issue that should be taken care of at the next oil change. From what I found on the web, this a common BMW problem. I understand there's a check valve in the oil filter housing (remember, these use a filter that goes inside a metal can on the side of the engine) that gets leaky. When you shut off the engine, the oil gallery drains slowly back through the check valve into the sump so it takes longer than it should to get the oil pressure back when you start the engine the next time. This is a nuisance that should be taken care of but it doesn’t affect oil pressure once the engine is running. The back bumper has a scuff and cracked plastic on the left corner. You can also see a hairline crack in the middle in one of the photos. The foam rubber insulation that’s glued to the underside of the hood needs to be replaced. The tires look good. In fact, they look close to new. But, be warned, they’re at least 11 years old. They don’t look cracked up or any of that but when I drove to the gas station, there was a pronounced vibration at around 55 mph. I think it’s due to the tires from sitting so long – flat on the bottom? Maybe it will go away when the tires are driven a bit? It’s not a front end issue. The front end and steering are tight and have that solid BMW feel. This car looks and runs great. It's fast and solid. It doesn't use oil, it doesn’t smoke or any other dang thing. It always passed emissions in Georgia which tells you the engine is not worn out. What’s right with the car - It's never been wrecked, hit, whacked, smoked in or any of that. In fact, I defy you to find a real dent in it anywhere. I see only 1 small door type ding on the right front door. My girlfriend did that. The leather interior is primo, beautiful royal blue. The electric seats work like they should. I have the owners manual and original sales receipt. The tool kit is in it, complete with spare fuses and bulbs. The spare is full size and the jack is there. The trunk looks like it's never been used. The engine, clutch, and tranny are fine - no issues, no leaks - yep that's right, no leaks. I included a picture of my garage floor where it's been parked for the last 11 years - nothing there- and by the way, it was parked with the engine toward the front of the picture. Remarkable really. Terms - My terms are very simple. You buy, you pay, you get the car. I have the title (clear). Within 5 days of the auction close, you must send a $500 deposit by check, cash, Pay-pal, gold bullion, or $500 worth of quality beer. I’ll hold the car from that point for 30 days, in the garage. When you or your shipper pick it up, the balance is due by bank check, cash, or Pay-Pal. Buyer’s guarantee - I believe in full disclosure. Check my feedback. I’ve done my best to list all the faults of this car. However, when you pick it up, if you’re not happy with what you see, meaning there’s something wrong that I missed, I’ll refund your deposit on the spot and you’re on your way. Now I’m not talking about you changing your mind and deciding you don’t want it… Pick up/delivery – You can pick it up in Fayetteville, GA, 30215 at your convenience. I can deliver the car on a trailer for $1/mile within 250 miles. That means if you’re 100 miles away, you’re looking at $200. But, if I deliver, I need to be paid in full before I start out. Of course I’ll still stick with what I said about refunding your money if there’s a real issue I missed in the listing.
