Great car, but I need some cash, so it's gotta go. Rare car, as I understand it, there were only about 1,000-1,200 '96-'97 Passat TDI wagons imported to the US. There is one on ebay that will sell before my listing is up, and the bid is up to $4500 already with one day to go, and that car hasn't been driven for 2 years. (item 330557612844, if you're curious) So, that's kind of a hint as to my reserve. I've owned this car since 2009. I bought it from a family in Alabama who were selling grandpa's stuff after he had passed away. They told me he was the original owner, but we'll see what the history report says. Southern car, so it's got no rust, and it seems to be undercoated. I've had a lot of work done on it while I've had it, and have receipts for most of it. Here's the start of a list, and I will update it in a couple days after I look through my paperwork: Timing belt done last summer, I'll get the mileage. I believe two or three seals were done also. Struts ,brakes, and bearings all around in 2010. A/C compressor in 2009, and I think the condenser and/or evaporator. Will have receipts. Starter in 2010. Battery in 2010. Glow plugs in 2010. Injection pump resealed in 2010. Rear hatch struts replaced in 2010. I'm sure I'm forgetting something, but that gives you an idea. I did find a TDI specialist in the area not long after I bought the car, and he has helped me take good care of the little car. I typically get 42-47 mpg, depending on how I drive it and where. Photos show a broken passenger side mirror. I have a replacement for it already, and just have to install it. One tire is basically new, with fewer than 400 miles on it, and the other three are okay--I can get tread depths, if anyone asks. Known problems: Rear wiper doesn't work. Never has while I've had it. As shown in photos, it doesn't have any wheel covers. I think I have one somewhere. Driver's door handle is not on car (I never lock the car, so I haven't replaced it), and the passenger side front door handle doesn't work from the outside. Interior shows some wear, driver's seat has a tear, window tint has some scratches. Check engine light is on, but my mechanic tells me that's because he removed the fifth injector, which was an emissions feature, as I understand it. Passenger front fender has a dent and some scrapes. Rest of body has some dings and scratches and the clear coat is peeling, which is typical of cars of this era. Car needs very little. SD does not smog test cars, so I have never had it tested and I don't know if it would pass in your state. I have clear SD title in hand. I am somewhat flexible on pick-up and payment. I require a $500 non-refundable deposit within 24 hours of auction end, and full payment within 7 days or it will be sold to someone else or relisted. Cash, wire transfer, paypal (you cover the 3% fee). Any check would have to clear before pick-up or funds would have to be verified by my bank (wire transfer is much better. You should have no problem driving this car home, but it's 15 years old and sold as-is. I could definitely pick you up at the Sioux Falls airport and could possibly help with pick-up/delivery in other ways if car is paid for, just ask. ANY questions, just ask. Good luck! To answer some questions: 1. No issues with turbo. I got paperwork indicating it was replaced at about 125,000 miles when I bought the car. 2. Antenna is bent, but it is still there. 3. Grille is not damaged, but there is a cord sticking out of it for the block heater. 4. I am not planning to do a carfax, as the history report on the listing does not indicate any issues. 5. Windows, sunroof, and doors are all working except what was noted--outside driver's door handle is gone, and front passenger side exterior door handle is not working properly. 6. I didn't find the paperwork on the rear hatch struts, but I assure you they were done--only had the thing fall on my head 4 or 5 times before fixing that. Should get more photos today. It has some staining, but is intact. Photos of right front seat show the replacement mirror on the seat and another new door handle on the floor. Also another note about the photos: I DO have the rolling cargo cover for the back cargo area. One of the tracks is not currently installed, but it just takes two bolts and it's fastened.
