Vehicle Detail

First I'll start with the particulars on my 1936 Opel and follow with history after my description : My Opel was in the possession of an air force officer in Germany since the 1960's. The front window sticker shows this. In 1973 the car was shipped to Maryland and driven for 1 year and the plate is still on the car. It was then put in dry storage and faithfully turned over every few months until the present day. I've put oil; a new battery; points and plugs into the car and it started right up. The odometer shows 86,744 miles and should be correct. The motor purrs -- doesn't smoke or knock . It's got a brand new Interstate battery in it. The body is exceptionally strong ! The only rust-through is the rockers and small amount of floor adjoining. The battery box floor is also gone. I don't believe the body has ever been in an accident. All the handles; top tie-down; chrome; hood chrome; bumpers; lights are all there. Only thing missing is one of the turn signal flags that drop down from side of window. These were fairly common on European cars of that era. The car comes with a complete top assembly that can be used for a pattern. The top bows are simply solid rod bent and stuck in the top frame. It is missing two, but they could easily be copied with a solid rod. The grill is there but rough. The horizontal teeth can be replaced as needed. The Olympia badge is still intact. This is probably the best preserved '36 Opel convertible left in the world to be restored by a new owner. I would love to see this car return to it's Motherland. I will deliver to any Florida seaport for $500 for the winning bidder, and make sure it gets on the ship. You can call me on my cell at 321-698-2643 (East coast time) or email me with questions. Additional pictures are available upon request. The car has an open Maryland title. Thanks for your time and good luck. HISTORY ON 1936 OLYMPIA DROP HEAD COUPE: Opel offerred a true 4-seater with 1.3 litre, 4-cylinder side valve, 24HP engine capable of 60MPH. Drive was to the rear wheels through a 3-speed gearbox. The car had Independent front suspension with a live axle at the rear and semi-elliptic leaf springs. The car was available in 2 versions-- either a 2-dr. and 2-door convertible. The convertible was designated a CL for 2-dr light convertible. The wheelbase is 93.3 inches and length 154.7 inches. The Opel Olympia is the first small family car produced by the German automaker, Opel, from 1935 to 1940. Then 1953 to again from 1967 to 1970. The car was first presented in February at th4e 1035 Berlin Motor show. Production got underway during that year. the Olympia was named in anticipation of the 1935 Berlin Olympic Games. Perhaps our track hero, Jesse Owens sat in on e while he was at the '36 Olympic games ! From 1925 to 1937, the Olympia had a 1.3 litre engine. The 1935 Olympia was Germany's first mass-produced car with an all-steel unitized body (monocoque). This revolutionary technology reducd the weight of the car by 400 lbs., compared to it's predecessor. Production of the unibody design required new production methods and materials. Spot welding advanced types of steel, and a new production line layout were amoung the many advances introduced by the Olympia. In 1936, there were a total of 37,127 units built. The name Olympia was revived in 1967 for a luxury version of the Opel Kadett B. Opel has made a subsidiary of General Motors in 1929. In a Detroit news paper article, the 1936 Opel was on the list of the 10 most successful GM cars ever manufactured. There were no 1955-57 Chevys on the list!
