Vehicle Detail
I bought this car in the Chicago area and drove it home to Minneapolis. It then had 86,787 miles, and I have driven it over 6,600 miles since, mainly in Minnesota but as far as the 2009 IEC Rally in Omaha (800+ miles round-trip), where it took third place in its class. Of the 1343 Corsair converitbles built in 1959 the current Edsel Registry lists only 90 survivors. Originally sold in Oregon, it spent many years in California and still had that registration when I got it. VIN B9UR736635 OWNERSHIP: unknown to 1/1/02 when Super Cosmos Museum (Sun Valley, CA) sold it to David Lee (Fontana, CA), who sold it (4/17/03) to Howard Nussbaum (Northbrook, IL), from whom I purchased it June 25, 2005. EXTERIOR: repainted in eye-catching 1958 Edsel Turquoise (2004); bright metal basically good, rear bumper replated (2005); outer door handles replaced & locking mechanism rebuilt (2005); wheel spinners with appliques added (2005); rear lights corrected & missing "Corsair" script replaced (2006); rear bumper reinforcement bar with jacking plates installed (2009). INTERIOR: new carpet, new seat belts (not Edsel) (2005); new door weather stripping (most still in box) (2006); after-market AC blower unit removed but comes with the car, condenser unit still installed on engine. UNDER HOOD: engine rebuilt (2003); turn signal and ignition switches replaced, generator rebuilt (2007); paint overspray corrected to near standard and heater core replaced (2008); constant voltage regulator replaced (2009). TRUNK: rust-proofing, carpeting (not Edsel) (2005); weather stripping, lock & key, jack base all replaced (2006). TOP: new top installed (2004); top rails replaced, with correct "T" bolts (2007); top motor and pump rebuilt (2008). CHASSIS: transmission rebuilt (2003); rear brakes and axle seals, idler arm & bushing (2008); bias ply tires have approximately 9,000 miles on them (spare does not match). ADDITIONAL: owner's manual, shop manual, electrical system manual, transmission service manual, brake & service tool manual, wiring diagrams, jacking instructions, 1959 color brochure & color chips, "complete" gasket set (only valve cover gaskets used), set of near-perfect exterior door handles to install. OVERALL: not in perfect condition at 52 years old, and not a professional restoration, it drives and shows well. Needs additional detail work I can no longer perform. I would rate it between a Class 2 and Class 3 (see www.edsel.com), i.e. certainly worth more than $15,400 but perhaps not as much as $23,100. Sale is final, with payment by wire or cashier's check due within seven days of close of auction. Buyer to arrange for pickup or transport.
