Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a fun to drive 1961 Austin Healey 3000 MK 1 BT7. I'm a hobbyist who has bought several cars on Ebay and I understand the difficulty in buying a vehicle sight unseen so I'll try to be as descriptive as possible. My Healey runs strong, shifts well (clutch is a bit spongy-may have air in the lines), and although it tracks fine the front end needs to be rebuilt as the suspension is loose. It's the kind of vehicle that I enjoy driving as it is by no means perfect but is very presentable, has that beautiful throaty Healey sound, has never left me stranded and won't break the bank. The paint is glossy but has several imperfections, the boot lid has apparently had rust at the lower edge as there is filler in that area and does not latch properly (expect to replace the boot lid if looking to restore) but otherwise the car appears to be sound. The driver's door has a pronounced gap when latched, I'm not sure if the car has been hit in that area or if it's a door alignment issue. The outrigger has never been compromised so if it was hit it could not have been severe. It has never run hot and the oil pressure pumps ups as intended. I have purchased several items that have never been installed including a trafficator which was in great shape when I bought it but my 10 year old son dropped it and cracked the inner bezel (see photo), a steering wheel which has a couple of small cracks but is very presentable, and a speedometer and oil/temp guage. I have included several photos of the undercarriage which appears very sound. When I bought the car the top was in great shape, I've not had it up since and can only assume it is still as it was when purchased. I've owned the Healey for about 6 years and have really enjoyed it but it's time to thin out the herd a bit. I'm moving to the Panhandle of Florida and my new place has less garage space.
