I purchased this car in 2008 from a body shop in Worcester; car had not moved since 1985. The father had bought for his son, who painted the car in 1985, then it was put in the back of the shop and left for 28 years. The son never wanted a BMW. Have title from 1985 showing 32,750 miles...current mileage is likely original, based on condition of interior and car. All hydraulics were replaced and carb upgraded to a Weber. Car runs great, plenty of power, stops, shifts and drives just like it should. No smoke or significant leaks. New tires, shocks, basketweave wheels, 5-speed trans from a newer 320i with new guibo, clutch u-joints, and shortened shaft, nice stereo with 4 speakers and mp3 input, new carpet and Cocomats, wood steering wheel (have original leather wrapped and one other steering wheel with car). Was just repainted with Dupont Nason single stage Burgundy to match original, but was also clear-coated. Looks great, very straight body lines, but is not a perfect paint job...a couple small dimples in hood. Body and frame solid...no rust. However, there is a sheet metal patch on driver's floor that was done by previous owners. All beltline trim and door guards were removed, with holes welded before paint. I think it looks a lot cleaner than original. Front bumper replaced with custom chrome nerf bars and Hella driving lights...sharp. Original bumper goes with car. Rear bumper guargs were removed and original bumper in good condition. Interior super clean. Seats look almost new with no damage...driver's seat was re-padded. Has shoulder seat belts in front. Dash good, but a couple cracks were filled. Glass good. Engine compartment mostly original but clean. Trunk original and clean. New gas tank. This is a sharp looking, nice driving classic BMW. I would trust driving it anywhere. It was a nostalgic build due to my car sickness and college memories...a friend had an "02 tii" that I could never get out of my head. Also, it was a gas-crunch resto, when gas was $4 in 2008...this car gets better than 20 mpg, beating my muscle cars by 100%. I just have too many projects and am more attracted to american muscle cars. Last 5 photos are of when I picked car up in 2008...just for reference...and one local sick BMW Monster for the hell of it...purists look away. On Apr-26-11 at 04:19:32 PDT, seller added the following information: Added info: Answer to question that I forgot to post: Fuel pump was replaced (it is a mechanical pump on motor) and fuel pickup/sender was also replaced in tank. Motor is original with no work done by me except carb, battery, belts and tuneup...I may have done water pump also...forget, but I have all receipts. Trans was from a later 320i (1981 I think)...smooth with no issues...no work done on it by me. All electricals work...wipers are a little slow and temp gauge climbs a little as more accessories are turned on. Last week, fuel gauge just started getting stuck on full...quirky...will try to straighten it out. I will take some photos of undercarriage and send them by email...send me your email . Driver's door and passenger rear quarter were just repainted last week to correct imperfections in paint...same paint (from same gallon) and same clearcoat were used as 2 years ago. However I noticed a mismatch in color on these 2 panels. My pro has told me it will fade in to match, but I thought it is worth mentioning. I would suggest inspection...would like to ensure satisfied buyer.
