Vehicle Detail
Hi there! I'm a 2002 Ford Explorer XLT. I'm a really nice family car, but I have to be honest with you - I have a few flaws (don't we all?) Before we get into all my "opportunity areas" allow me to tell you what's great about me. My exterior paint looks pretty good (check pics). My wheels aren't too shabby either. My engine runs strong and feels brand new, no issues there.I have 3 row seating!I have NO rust!My rear springs and struts were replaced about two years ago.My interior isn't spotless, (hey, I carried a bunch of kids around all day, YOU try staying clean!) but all my seating surfaces are in good shape with no rips or holes. With a minor detailing the interior would look great. My front brakes are pretty new (disks and pads) and my owner says he'll throw in some brand new rear brake pads for the buyer. My tires are fairly new, maybe a year old.My battery is brand new!I have a satellite radio receiver already hooked up (Sirius). It did come unglued and will need to be re-mounted to the dash.My 4WD High works great in the winter months and I always get where I need to go.I have a factory trailer hitch.I am a one-owner car and I am paid off - my owner holds my clean title.I cost waaaay less than a new car.OK, so now the "opportunity areas" I mentioned. My transmission isn't working correctly. The O/D Off light keeps flashing. The transmission guy says the "Shift Solenoid" code is being thrown. Without digging into the tranny he can't tell me what exactly is wrong. It could cost $700 to fix, it could cost a lot more. The symptoms are a rough shift from 3-4 and from Park to Reverse. I'm still drivable though and I still haven't left anyone stranded! My 4WD Low does not work. I hear this is likely the electric motor that engages Low range being broken. Not sure why it doesn't work though. I've always gotten by fine in 4WD High.My driver side power lock button does not work.At higher speeds, my rear wheels make a whining sound like wheel bearings going bad. Is that what it is? Probably, but I don't know for sure.My Airbag caution light is lit. Why? I'm told it's likely a cable leading to the seatbelt tensioner that has come disconnected. Apparently this is a known fault for Explorers of my "vintage". Again, I don't know for sure why it's on.The plastic panels on my tailgate have cracked - another known fault of '02 Explorers. (see pic)The bozo who drives me backed into something and damaged the bumper cover (see pic)Emergency Brake does not work. WHO SHOULD BUY ME?I know I have "issues" but I still hold value. I am not going to be given away and I do have a LOW reserve price. I'm great for someone who knows his or her way around a car and wants to fix me up. I am also great for someone who wants a winter beater for a low price - you could drive me as-is and see how long my tranny lasts without being fixed; it could be a day, it could be a couple of years.
