The hard cases detach easily to lighten the load, although there is really no need with the horse power this engine has. Plenty of acceleration is available when you need. Attach the hard case and you are ready for an excursion. Touring some winding country roads or hitting the high road to the foothills and then mountains is my favorite way to go on this bike. I bought this bike in 2007 in South Carolina from a private seller. I have put 7100 miles on this bike since I bought it. I have used it for a couple of camping trips, some mountain touring on the Blue Ridge Parkway (awesome), and some back and forth to Atlanta (about 90 miles each way) It handles great on the road and has plenty of power. This is a heavy bike so I do not take it too far off the beaten path. It has been on some forest service roads and some dirt roads on a camping trip. It does pretty well, however it is nothing like a dirt bike and it is a good idea to drop your air pressure on too loose of gravel. It has a higher clearance from the ground than average street bikes and is good if you need to go on dirt, but not in real wet or extreme conditions. I would call it a versatile Sport Touring bike. Because of its higher clearance it is height restrictive. I am 5'10" and it fits me fine, however if you are a shorter height this may not be the bike for you. Scratch list right and left hand guards have some scratches (pictured)plastic road guard has some scratches from road debris on both sides (pictured)right side has light and superficial scratches on engine guard, thigh rest, and Kappa frame (pictured) Both Kappa side bags and top case have brush scratches from camping, storage and normal wear and tear. Most of the scratches happened when I was in my backyard. The bike tipped in the grass and got some minor scratches from a rock border in the garden. The right bag brushed up against the garage and got scratched and I reattached the reflector that came off as a result.
