Vehicle Detail

1966 Caprice Sport Coupe, 31,000 original miles!! Numbers matching original condition Survivor with NO RESERVE 327 CI 275 HP V-8 with 4-barrel carb, Powerglide trans, power steering, power brakes "Strato" bucket seat interior, center console with the optional gage package. This Caprice Sport Coupe is optioned the same as an Impala "SS". Caprices ordered this way were considered a "rich man's SS" because it was identical in every way to the Impala SS, but was more luxurious due to the Caprice's upgraded exterior and interior trim, upholstery, carpeting and accessories. The Caprice was also given a heavier duty suspension. This car was originally purchased on January 14th 1966 from the Clinton Garage Chevrolet dealership in Clinton, Connecticut. The original owner was Sherman Griswold a local businessman from the neighboring town of Madison, CT. Mr Griswold was a well known figure in town and was also the owner of the Griswold Airport a small private airport located on the shore of Long Island Sound in Madison. This Caprice was part of his collection of cars and planes until his passing. This Caprice was acquired from his estate in 2007 by a principal of Verdini Racing Associates in Clinton CT as an addition to their small collection of cars. The Caprice is up for sale to make room for a new aquisition. This car is a very unique example of the first year that the Caprice had its own distinct model and body style. The color combination of Lemonwood yellow/black top/black interior was the most popular and sought after for 1966. This car has had only two owners with the original owner in possesion of the car for first 41 years of the car's 45 year life and would still own the car if he had not past away. This Caprice has never been garaged more than 5 miles away from the original dealership it was purchased from in 1966! Truly a uncommon rare survivor. This Caprice is in mostly original condition and is unrestored. The original owner's manual, accessories booklet and Chevrolet "protecto-plate" are with the car. The car is complete with nothing missing, every piece of trim and every button and knob is intact, everything works except the clock. The overall condition is is very good for a car of its age. The interior is in good shape, the driver's seat has several small tears, the passenger and rear seats are mint, the carpet is slightly faded, the headliner has one seam starting to let go. The paint needs attention: an older repaint in the original Lemonwood Yellow color has some bubbling and some very minor rust bubbles starting on both quarters. There is minor surface rust starting under the lower trim of the vinyl roof but the roof is in excellent shape. See pictures. The trunk had some surface rust repaired by the original owner and still has the original trunk mat, spare tire, jack and lug wrench. The floors and frame are solid with some surface rust but no rot or major rust. New parts include a complete original style dual exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers, radiator, starter, all belts and hoses, ignition, and new radial tires on new Chevy rally rims. The original stock rims and Caprice deluxe hubcaps will come with the car. The engine compartment has been detailed and some new chrome accesories installed to replace older parts installed by the original owner. The 327 engine has the perferred "Camelback hump" type heads, it runs excellent with lots of power, the transmission shifts smooth, the car drives and rides like a dream. This car is a very dependable driver and has been driven to numerous car events and shows throughout CT and NY state. The car is sold as is. I encourage you to inspect the car in person. Comes with a State of CT bill of sale, CT does not issue titles to cars older than 10 years old. No Trades. Email any questions.
