Up for auction is a nice example of a 1998 Mercedes Benz SL500. I got this car a few yeas ago as a hand-me-down from my father-in-law, who purchased the car off lease in 2001. The color is technically "smoke silver," but it looks like Champagne. This SL500 offers: - 5.0L V8 Engine (315 hp) - 2 Tops (Original Hard Top; Fully Replaced Brown Soft Top (new in ~2008)) - Pop-Up, Leather Padded Roll Bar - Xenon Headlamps - Driving Lights - Bose Audio System - Trunk-Mounted 6-Disc Changer - Integrated Mobile Telephone - Traction Control - Aluminum “Mercedes Benz” Door Sill Plates - Power Driver’s and Passenger’s Seats - Auto-Dimming Rear View Mirror - Pop-up Roll Bar - Removeable Wind Deflector/Screen - Homelink Universal Transceiver As you will see from the pictures, this car has been well-maintained, with most service performed at ASC in Arlington and Euro Motors in Germantown. The car looks great inside and out, though there are a few minor blemishes that I inherited with the car. The interior is in very good condition. There are no tears in the leather, door liners, head liners or the floors. The radio, gauges, A/C, heat, power locks, power seats, alarm, etc. all work! The only notable issue inside is that the display on the radio is blacking out, but it still works great. A new head unit is about $50, here on eBay. The car is riding on very nice Michelin Pilot Sport AS tires with good tread all around. The car comes with 2 tops: the original, body-color hard top with rear defroster and an excellent condition brown soft top, which was new in ~2008. There are no holes in the soft top or the windows. In 2009 I replaced the hydraulic top lock actuators, which were a huge problem spot on this body style SL, and had the hydraulic system inspected and serviced. Every SL of this era that you see either has had the lock actuators replaced, needs them replaced, or soon will need them replaced! These should be good for another 90,000! Included with the car is a wheeled hard-top storage stand and cover. With respect to the maintenance on this car: - The car has had all scheduled maintenance. - The car has had regular oil and lube changes (using only synthetic oil) and tire rotations. - The car got rear brakes in 2009. - The car starts, runs, idles, stops and drives very nicely. The car comes with the original window sticker, owners manual, maintenance book, 3 original master key/fobs and 1 or 2 original valet keys. As with any used car, there are a few flaws with the car. There are a couple of pebble chips here and there and a scuff on the front, driver’s side corner of the bumper. It probably could be rubbed out or touched-up easily, but I haven’t taken the time to do it. Inside, the driver’s floor mat is showing its age. Overall the car is in very good condition. If you are curious, yes, this is an identical re-listing of this vehicle (formerly Item No. 230598665895) because of a technical problem at eBay. For some reason the original listing only showed the location as "USA" in searches, and not as "Potomac, MD". Since the item had a bidder almost as soon as it was listed, eBay could not correct the problem and the item had to be cancelled and re-listed. Sorry.
