1968 MERCEDES BENZ 300 SEL 6.3. MBZ 300 SEL 6.3. Legendary automobile. One of the greatest sedans ever made. Supposed to go something like zero to sixty in about seven seconds. I purchased this auto in 1990 and had it restored mechanically and had it expertly re-painted; I did not restore the interior. This vehicle has not been driven since 1996 and has been stored outside. The paint and clearcoat on the top and part of the side of the vehicle have faded and peeled and will require re-painting. The car ran well when I put it into storage, but, of course, after all these years, it is not in running condition and will require all of the processes needed to bring an auto (“out of commission”) into running condition: fluids replaced, gas tank relined, etc. and possibly more. When put into storage, the air bladders worked properly. The one thing I remember that needed replacement was the major seal for the transmission fluid, which is something like an eight-hour job for a mechanic. The interior has never been restored. This vehicle appears to be a gray market version of this car because the speedometer is in kilometers (63,685 KILOMETERS--around 100,000 miles), and the seats are covered in the MBZ “velour-type” upholstery. The speedometer worked when I had it, but my sense is that the mileage (which is low) reflected may not be accurate. The backseats are in better condition than the front ones (which are worn), but all the seats and upholstery should be candidates for replacements. The wood will need to be refinished. I took these pictures in April 2010 when I was in Fresno and inspected the car. I saw a little bit of minor rust on the rocker panel (see pic). Also, someone took the hood ornament. This car was a strong runner, and I hope someone can restore this auto to its rightful condition. Vehicle is located in FRESNO, CALIFORNIA (not in Tennessee, where I live now) and I can arrange for you to see the car. After I moved to Tennessee, I stored the vehicle at our mechanic's shop for about a year until he needed his space back. I had the AAA Club move it from there to its present location. Buyer will be responsible for transportation and for any licensing and registration fees. The storage fees are paid through APRIL 2011, but the new owner can pay the storage fees after that date if they desire to store the car for a longer time.
