Vehicle Detail
1973 Cadillac Miller Meteor Hearse. 472 cubic engine. 400 TH transmission. 107000 miles. Good black vinyl interior, with one unfortunate area from a cigarette ash on the drivers side of the bench seat. It is just a small circle, not burned through, and the local upholstery shop said it could be fixed. Ceiling is intact but stained. Visors are stained and currently not installed. Curtains are stained and falling apart. They are left in so they can be used as templates. Carpeted areas at door bottoms getting ragged. Has factory A/C which is currently non-functional. It never seemed important enough to repair. The paint is pretty good and looks nice when waxed up, but it has been around 14 years since it was repainted. If you really want to score points, count on a repaint. Around here, most of the Hearses that don’t go to collectors end up as an advertising device and get paint with Radio slogans or slathered in flames, so this point may be moot. It currently has a spreadbore Holley Economaster. The original carb is boxed along with the original air cleaner. All glass good. Body is solid with some rust on the bottom of the front fenderwells and some surface rust along the area where the roof meets the rear quarter panels. The following have been replaced (with new parts) in the last 5000 miles: Carb, as mentioned above Air filter Fuel filter Tires, 235-15 whitewalls Front calipers, discs, lines, bearings, and pads Rear shoes, hardware, and wheel cylinders Distributor with a Pertronix conversion Ignition Wires Spark Plugs PCV Front and rear shocks. Drive shaft pillow (mid car) bearing Transmission seals, oil, and filter Front end parts as needed to tighten up the suspension along with an alignment Oil and filter The car runs STRONG, but is a little cold blooded and takes a few moments to get running on the manual choke conversion in cold weather. With the present carb, it gets about 10 MPG. Your mileage may vary. Good compression and good vacuum. The transmission has been rebuilt somewhere in the past, we really don’t know when. When the fluid and filter were replaced recently, there were no bad signs, i.e.: no burned oil or pan full of shavings. If the vehicle is driven every day, it doesn’t leak a drop. But, even with the new seals, if it is parked for a few days, the rear seal begins to drip. The best fix? Drive it every day J There is no radio in the car. Turn signals, headlights, tail lights, brake lights work. Other than power steering and brakes, everything else is manual. Crank up windows, manual slide on the front (and only) bench seat. No cruise control. On open road, the vehicle is a joy to drive. It is smooth, tracks straight, and is fairly quiet. The engine just seems to have unlimited power. Of course, at nearly 23 feet long, Wal-Mart, McDonald’s Drive Through, and parallel parking downtown are not high on the list of joyful things to experience. Of course, now that we want to sell it, the radiator began leaking. It will need repair, re-rodding or replacement. If you keep it full, you can get where you need to go. The muffler, although fairly new, got sort of wrinkled when it struck something in a parking lot while backing up. The chrome is decent, not rusty, no major dents, but wouldn’t win a concours. All the trim is there, except somebody found it amusing to break off part of the cross on the drivers side pillar. The left rear quarter trim needs new clips. We tend to leave the piece off when driving for now. The piece is custom made for this vehicle and took 5 years to find. The hubcaps are factory original and look great. The roof was recently redone to near factory specs. It is NOT vinyl, but a grey weather resistant paint. The car originally shipped with a grey roof. There is one bad spot that has appeared. We provided a photo. Our starting price is firm, unless you have a very compelling story. If it doesn’t sell, it will be parted out. We can sell the windshield for $600. We have an offer of $800 for the drivetrain. We have $400 in the tires and will keep them. The 12 bolt rear end will net us at least $200. The side trim pieces will go for a minimum of $200. A hearse body, minus drivetrain weighs in enough to net over $600. WE DO NOT WANT TO DESTROY THIS HEARSE! So, I guess this is just an idle threat, “buy this vehicle or its death will be on your conscious.” Don’t make your only ride in a Hearse your last. http://s1211.photobucket.com/albums/cc434/ACCTR9999/ Please look at the photos at the link provided. We tried to show all the sketchy stuff. ASK ANY AND ALL QUESTIONS. We have driven it on trips of 150 miles or more without problems. However, now that the radiator is leaking, I would recommend having it trailered. THERE IS NO WARRANTY. YOU BUY IT, YOU OWN IT. THIS IS NOT A PERFECT VEHICLE! In no way are we attempting to say it is.
