this is a nice straight 1964 mercury comet caliente. i was thinking of making an a/fx or b/fx car with it. 64's are my favorite year, and had great success in the factory lightweight wars. this car is very straight, nice gaps, everything shuts as it should. the car has very minimal rust, and it has its original 260 v8, that previous owner added an aluminum performer intake, valve covers, and for some reason, an 800 cfm carburetor, which is way to big for this engine. i do have the stock 2 bbl, and steel intake, stock valve covers, and the original air cleaner. the engine stamp looks up as the original 260 v8. the bonus to this car is it has a top loader 4 speed transmission, and a 9" rear end already in it---with disc brakes. the fronts are still drum, and they make an easy convert for the front. BODY: the body is straight, nice gaps. may have had some filler low front fenders at some time. doors shut with 1 finger, as does the trunk. hood has 2 bends in both sides, but i have a nice straight stock hood to go with the car. i was going to put a crites a/fx glass hood on it. the car has all the trim, and it is in very nice shape. needs very few small dings cleaned up on the trim. bumpers are straight, grill and headlight trim are also in nice shape. rear panel between bumpers--very rare, and clean! windshield has a pit, rest of the glass is good. lights worl-turn signals, brakes, hi-low, dash, and even the horn works. body is showing very little rust around rear wheels, and in front of pass rear wheel along seem, not rusted through, but through surface. a patch panel would work. floors are in excellent shape. inside engine compartment is straight-undamaged, with original vin on fender well, and original front date coded fenders. trunk is also nice. looks like it had something dent trunk floor on pass. side from underneath. INTERIOR: i dont know what the buckets are out of, but match rear seat. car was originally gold-gold interior. when door opens, light still comes on under the dash and headliner light works. speedometer not hooked up, and temp gauge does not work--oil, fuel, and amp do. the heater even works.do not have radio, but have radio faceplate. i was going to put a set of seats from a cyclone in it. DRIVETRAIN: the engine is the original stock 260 with edlebrock intake and carb. car runs smooth, but way to big of a carb. can be driven as is, but i would put the stock 2 bbl on, or go with a crate 347. transmission is a ford top loader 4 speed with hurst shifter. rear end is a 9" with disc brakes. not sure what its out of, and also, i believe it is a track-lock. pretty high gears, maybe 3:00? ENDING: as usual, i list to much about the car, and dont get top dollar as some others, but have never had anybody upset about telling to much about the car. some guys only describe their car in 2 lines. check my feedback, and know that what is listed and described, is what you will win. this would be an easy driver, as previous owner drove it often and almost every day. would make a great street car with a 289-302, or an afx or bfx car with a 390 or 428 or cammer motor. there are alot of post comets, not many hardtops left. this car has a clear colorado title. can store car for 1 month free, then $75.00 per month after. i will include a buy it now, but if reserve has been met, it will go away.
