1954 OLDSMOBILE SUPER 88 4-door Sedan Check out my other items!“The Dream that couldn’t wait” Newly designed for `54, one of the 1st with the new panoramic windshield and wraparound rear window. Longer, lower and powered by the now famous - ROCKET 88. 324ci – w/ 4 bbl & 8.25:1 compression yielding 185 hp/300 ft.lbs. torque & boasting w/ 11 NASCAR Wins that year. The number 8 in the VIN means it’s a real SUPER 88. This survivor has an incredible, documented (see pics) 42,283 miles!; that’s less than 1000 a year in its lifetime. It was a contemporary with these `54 footnotes: Willie Mays’ famous catch, “I like Ike”, Elvis, Davey Crockett, the sub-4 minute mile in track, the immortal Chevy small block, & if you forgot – the 1st meteorite known to strike a woman - Liz Hodges, Sylacauga AL. And get this; Miss America 1954 was Evelyn Ay from Ephrata, Pennsylvania right around the corner from this Olds. And to further the connection, this Olds was generously donated to a local church & the proceeds from the sale will go to the funding of a new building project in Ephrata, PA! Believed to be a 2 owner car originally from Ohio, then into PA in 1980. Comes with: 1954 PA Tags ~ Original Dealer Invoice ~ Original Owner’s Manual, Spare & Jack. But as you know, low mileage can have its pros & cons w/ machinery. In this case, the 4 spd. Hydra-Matic slips shifting into 3rd. going up a grade. It will motor down a level road or downhill in D, don’t worry, the brakes work fine. S, Lo & R work OK. The fluid is clear, no burnt smell & there are no noticeable leaks. It just seems that lack of driving took its toll. Rebuild kits are around $400 & qualified shops will run at least $1000 for a rebuild, maybe less if only adjustment is needed. Some info & sources about the trans from blogs & Websites. From a blogger: “The 1st thing I would do is make sure the TV (throttle valve) linkage is hooked up. If it's not hooked up the clutches and band servos won't receive the right amount of oil (transmission fluid) pressure needed to work properly. Then check the adjustment, the TV lever on the side of the trans needs to be all the way back at idle (this keeps the car from "creeping" when you stop in gear) and all the way forward (maximum oil pressure to eliminate slippage) with the throttle wide open. You should also drain the fluid, remove the pan, and see if the filter is clogged. You have to reuse the old filter, if it's really clogged up you can dunk it in a can of carb cleaner or something similar, then scrub it with a brass-bristle (not steel-bristle) wire brush, then blow it out with compressed air.” http://forums.aaca.org/ continue to: OLDSMOBILE CLUBS > Oldsmobile - General > 1954 Olds 4-speed Hydramatic Front and Rear Band Adjustment Tool for some tips. http://www.autotran.us/index.html parts, kits etc. CONDITION Exterior: Straight, solid, rust-free panels, w/ a paint scrape on lower L F fender as seen in pic. A magnet stuck solidly everywhere. Older respray close to matching original paint codes of - 30 - Glacier Green & 60 - Polar White. Paint is somewhat flat but otherwise good & will buff out really well. Trim etc. are fair/good. Bumpers are fair/good showing some surface rust areas. Glass is good w/ some de-laminating (see pic) on LR vent window. A magnet stuck solidly everywhere. All original weather-stripping is good. Engine/Driveline: Original 12 volt engine starts right up idles smoothly, quietly & pulls strong. Transmission slips as noted above. Steers & brakes very well. Good tires & exhaust. Undercarriage: Solid floorboards & frame rails w/ no visible rust. Surface was lightly sprayed w/ an undercoating apparently when repainted years ago but doesn’t mask any flaws. Recently lubed. Interior: Original except for carpeting & in very good condition. Due to age & materials, the front seat (see pic) is starting to tear which is no surprise, but the Power Seat Works! Rear seat has some water staining. Headliner, door panels all good. All gauges work as they should on the wonderful dash. Wipers & aftermarket radio work & all lights work except R low beam is out. Heater fan wasn’t workingRoad Test: Trans has been working a bit better after being warmed up & driven more. I’m not saying it’ll cure itself but it’s not getting worse. Once on the level, it drives beautifully w/ effortless steering & good brakes for a 57 year old car. This solid, original, low-mileage Olds is worth keeping on the road & needs a new home, plus the money will go to a good cause. Check out my other items!
