Vehicle Detail

1983 CHEVROLET EL CAMINO Up for sale is a 1983 El Camino by the original owner. This car has been meticulously maintained and spent most of its life in a garage. The car was repainted in the early 1990s. The engine and transmission were rebuilt in the early 1990s as well (when the vehicle had about 50,000 miles on it). The 74,000 is the original miles (including the 50,000 when rebuilt - miles were NOT rolled over). A picture of the dash with the mat removed is included to show that there are no cracks in the dash (that alone shows that ths car has spent its life in a garage). The vehicle is in great working order and was just serviced. I'm not eager to sell this vehicle, but it's only been driven twenty thousand miles in the last ten years and at this point, I would rather see it go to a collector who will truly appreciate its value. The vehicle comes with a clear title and has been in no accidents. It does NOT have a salvage title. This vehicle is in excellent condition and you will be hard-pressed to find a comparable vehicle in its year range. Vehicle has power everything, plus a pop-up sunroof and in-dash Alpine CD player. Please inquire if you have any questions or would like more photos. On Mar-11-11 at 21:55:44 PST, seller added the following information: ***ADDITIONAL PHOTOS JUST ADDED*** I've had many inquiries regarding the El Camino. I've added some additional photos to answer some of them, showing the engine, the mint upholstery, and the undercarriage. As far as the engine goes, the engine is stock engine 305 and yes it has all of the stock emissions device on it. The tranny is a 3-speed tranny (Turbo 350). It does have an upgraded exhaust system. Two months ago it was smogged and passed California's smog test with flying colors. You could drive it across country and not think twice about it. As far as the floorboards and undercarriage - there is no rust. This vehicle has been in California since it was purchased new and as you all know, California vehicles do not rust (sorry Mid-West). Regarding the paintwork - I have been asked why it was repainted at 50,000 miles. The answer may not make sense to most of you, but the stock color of the vehicle was black and silver two-tone, and I really wanted an all-black El Camino. It was repainted by a local paint shop here in Riverside (Imperial Autobody - by the original owner of the paint shop) that is very well-known in the area to be the best paint shop in the Inland Empire. During the painting process, ALL of the trim was removed - chrome bumper, stainless steel mouldings, glass, rubber goods, etc. It is an exceptional paint job as you can see from the mirror finish. When it was reassembled, I had all new GM weatherstripping goods installed as well (the weather stripping didn't HAVE to be replaced, but I wanted the car PERFECT; I am just picky that way as you can probably tell by now). I spent over $5,000 in the early 90s to have it repainted. It's probably the nicest black paint job you'll ever see; the depth in it is unreal. There is not a scratch or a ding in it, and you could shave your face in the reflection. As far as redoing the engine - no, it didn't have to be redone, but since I was doing the paint, I figured I'd just update everything so I wouldn't have to worry about it again. It was never my intention to sell this car (and there is a part of me that hopes it won't sell). Regarding the interior - yes, those are the original door panels, carpet, dash, headliner, etc. The seat material under the sheepskin seat covers (see photo) is the factory upholstery and like brand new. The sheep-skin seat covers were custom built by a company in San Diego because I wanted the sheep-skin to cover the entire back of the seat. So they are custom fit to the vehicle and as you can see, should provided many more years of comfortable use. The suspension on the vehicle is great - the shocks are not that old, the truck drives like it is new still. No creaking or rattles. The steering is nice and tight. The air conditioning blows ice cold; the blower has all its speeds. The radio works perfectly, as does the power antenna. The power windows/door locks all work. It has a Viper alarm system on it with remotes which unlocks the doors. All the turn signals, headlights, running lights, etc., all work. The tach, fuel, temp, and speedometer guages all work; even the clock works. All the illumination on the guages and a/c controls works perfectly. I'm not sure what else to say about it...But if you have any more questions, please ask. This is probably the nicest El Camino you could possibly get without having to go through a total restoration. This is ready to drive.
