Vehicle Detail

This listinig is for my mechainc and friend of 20 years, so any questions will take a little extra time as I am no motorcycle expert. This is his description: This 1955 Triumph 650 is truly "Old School." It was built in the late 70s with the help of some "Angels" on the west coast nre Modesto. My father-in-law rode it for several years. My wife became the owner 12 years ago. We want to restore it, but the financial crunch is hitting us like everyone else. It still runs via magneto. The six volt positive ground electric system is intact and the motor cycle runs and drives. Wires to the accesories like lights and so forth are destroyed by a dog during storage. It has a clear AZ title and the original CA plate. It's different but FUN to drive. The bike needs a good home where it would be enjoyed. You may call Billy at 928-567-9280 with questions to speed things along. The bike has an unusual fork -- not the typical "springer" fork but an improved version that many old school bikers will recognize. The rear frame is a customized hard tail. The bike needs somel restoration. Although it does run and drive, it is not ready to use. The lights need fixing. The chrome will need a lot of shining and much will need re-chroming. In truth it looks a little better in the pictures than in person. But there is nothing worse than surface rust, and much can be polished back to life. The seat is a disaster. The engine has a small oil leak and makes a slight clacking noise -- it does not affect performance but does point to future engine work. It has never been crashed, is not bent, and has no road rash. It does drive nicely if you can stand the seat. It is complete. The best purpose for this bike is for someone that wants to restore it. I repeat, it really is not a turn-key ready to go bike, It is a piece of history with fantastic vintage restoration potential. It is unusual being a Triumph rather than a Harley, and is smaller and lighter and easily handled by a smaller person, male or female. The sound is unique -- not Japanese, not a Harley, all British. Nothing sounds like an old Triumph. You would have to enjoy the restoration process. It is rare and unique and fun for the right person. It would be a nightmare for someone thinking that in a weekend they can make a show bike. Perhaps in a few weekends you could have it mechanically perfect without the cosmetics. Please consider this bike carefully -- there are no others like for sale anywhere, and you would be the focus of any biker meet or road trip. Please look at the pictures -- I tried to take honest picture that show it's true condition. If you need others, please let us know, and/or call Billy. he is a great guy and completely honest. There are few people I would risk my perfect rating for and list their item -- but he is not a computer person, he is a top-notch honest mechanic,so I listed it for him. Billy is willing to discuss doing any mechanical work in advance that you wish to pay for. He is very good and here in the boondocks, his rates are reasonable. The cosmetics would be up to you. Happy bidding!
