Vehicle Detail

Let's try this again... two time's a charm! Hi Jeep Lovers- Here's a really clean, I mean, REALLY CLEAN basic Commando. This rig has less than 4k miles on a near total restoration. Everything, (well 95% of everything) has been renewed or replaced, mechanicals, body and cosmetics, all done recently by the owner of Classic Military Automotive, a well-known and respected WW II Willys restoration specialist. I quote him: "I took it all apart, replaced anything worn and put it all back together like new or better." This was going to be his daily driver... LOTS MORE HIGHER DEFINITION PICS: Copy this address and paste it into your google address window: http://www.flickr.com/photos/59638697@N04/sets/72157625953944051/Note: I don't think this will be an active link from this eBay page. It also doesn't work to copy and paste into your "search window- paste it into the address window and press enter- should work. Any trouble call me- I'll email the link. Thanks. It is a Jeep Commando Hardtop with a 232 C.I. Straight-six cylinder, rated at around 120 HP. Three-speed floor shift, High/low range 4-wheel drive, Warn Locking hubs. It had approximately 58k miles prior to discovery on a farm in Northern California and a frame-on restoration. Just a list of things done from memory: Renewed or replaced new: Engine, including new Carb, seals, timing chain etc The ignition has been upgraded to Electronic. Pertronix, I think. Transmission Driveshafts New clutch with "Racing" Hydraulic Throwout Bearing (custom machining for fit) Axles and bearing and seals, front and rear diff's All new exhaust including manifold Steering gear New-ish Rancho Suspension: I think springs and shocks- definitely lifted a bit from stock and a quite stiff- sports car-like ride. Brakes, including Parking Brake and cable, w/drums & new Brake lines Master Cylinders, both Clutch and Brakes Radiator Alternator converted to GM Single-wire Pedals changed to hanging type from floor penetration system Fuel Tank with new lines and covers, & associated vent lines (the fill hose is original) Instruments have been replaced/upgraded since the originals are notoriously finicky (originals come with vehicle- Odometer shows the approximately 58k original miles on the Jeep before restoration) Wiring harness is new, some is a little home-made looking, other parts of the loom are excellent. Some glass has been renewed, some is original- the windshield is scratched. Some window rubber is new, some old- the vent-window rubber is original and dry. The Hardtop is excellent with great, glossy paint, new rubber seals for the glass and foam for the body seal. I have the original but old and fragile partial headliner and trim pieces. The body is close to perfect and almost 100% rust-free. There is an area on the inside vertical panel under the rocker on the passenger side that was cut out to remove rust. It has not been replaced. I have a pic. (The stars are plastic decals and can be removed easily. The paint is actually military spec and two spray cans of touch-up come with the Jeep). The tailgate seals are new. The carpet inside is underlayed with a closed-cell reinforced neoprene rubber. Seats are original and good but starting to get soft. In the pics you will see the rig sitting on vintage 7.00 x15.00 tires with a real off-road tread. She comes with five original wheels and the wheel covers are from a Wagoneer, I believe, they look good. I have since mounted a mixed set of 235 x 15" Mud and snow radials and the car actually rides and handles pretty well considering it has no power steering! Some cons, unfinished items: The Steering wheel is cracked at the horn button ring- I have the button, I think and the spring for under it. (so, no horn) The heater is un-modified- there is a very tiny wheezing of air- and I have seen the upgrade remedy online- it appears very straightforward and I'm sure would fix this design defect. There are one or two vacuum fittings and hoses that are not connected to anything in the engine compartment- I think these are vestiges of the vacuum system for emissions? Or they may be wiper washer tubes- the reservoir is missing. The turn-signal arm does not return on it's own. It is missing the Cigar lighter. The rear section of headliner either never existed or is missing. There is a hole where an instrument is meant to go on the new dash cluster- Clock? It's a standard 2" hole. I bought the car not running well and did some lengthy finishing touches, and got her cruising good. At present she starts perfect and runs excellent. TONS of torque, lots of power up to the middle of the power band and then (as is the case with all of these engines)- flat power in the higher revs. No big deal- you drive this like a diesel, HUGE low end torque, comfortable cruising and she'll do 80 on the Freeway. I get around 15 MPG mixed driving. This car, surprisingly, is the quietest, most wind-less convertible I have ever driven top-down at freeway speeds. (must be the excellent aerodynamics!). Over all, this is a real eye-catching ride. I get lots of smiles and thumbs-up. Many folks aren't sure what it is since these are fairly low-production vehicles. Topless, this is one of the funnest rides I've owned- I would not sell it either except for storage issues. YES- the license plate goes with the car- you get lots of laughs, specially from young ladies- folks think the plates refer to how I dress! Paint blemishes on the doors from the magnetic signs the former owner had on there- hard to see and visible only in certain light. I am including two cans of touch-up paint- it is extremely easy paint to work with- wet-sand and paint, DONE! Some Included stuff: A dauntless V6 in unknown condition with carb and manifolds. One driver's side door shell to replace the repaired one on the jeep- makes for a better fit. A box of various parts. RECEIPTS: ( I have some receipts for some of the work, like resurfacing the exhaust manifold or the machining and parts for the Clutch bearing for example but for other stuff that was done in house at the previous owners shop, I have no records). I HOPE I covered everything! BUT! If you have any Questions after looking at all the pics and reading through this description carefully (TWICE!), please feel free to call me at 415-572-0734. Thanks and good luck bidding. On Feb-25-11 at 18:19:49 PST, seller added the following information: MORE NEW PICS ADDED TODAY! Go the the above link and look- you really should check out all the hi-res pics- it's like crawling under and around every little corner of the rig. Hi people- I have added some more recent pics of the engine compartment since the first set of pics, I fixed a tiny little exhaust leak- I put a new gasket on because the previous owner didn't align the old one correctly so there was a little exhaust leak when the engine was warm and I stepped on the gas. SO, new manifold gaskets and checked the face of the manifold- took it to the machinist who said it was perfect! I did a new paint job on the valve cover and air-cleaner housing and took the opportunity to repaint the engine with the manifold off. It looks good. BY THE WAY: you may not have noticed how clean the underside of the Jeep is- I was the first person to drive it in the rain after the restoration... it was kinda painful actually going through puddles, knowing it was not going to be perfect anymore. ALSO: Check out the pic of the instrument cluster- those are the actual miles that I bought it with, since the restoration. I think it was more like 289- miles- a bit less than what is in the pic because I drove it a couple days before I took the pics... Anyway- she's got about 4k on her now and runs better than ever. To those of you who have asked to make an offer over the phone- thank you so much for your interest but I want to be honorable here and not shut-out the folks that have been bidding on it the old-fashioned way. To those who have asked me to reveal my reserve- I can only thank you for your interest and ask that you bid- if you bid enough- you'll find out. In my opinion, the reserve is set reasonably for the quality of this Jeep and as far as the amount of work done on it- three times the reserve would be inadequate! I will say this: the restorer I bought it from said he had an amount in it in parts and outside service (like machining), that is more than the reserve I have set. There- that's all I'm gonna say about that. On Mar-07-11 at 14:26:33 PST, seller added the following information: EXTRA INFO: The V6 mentioned in the listing is gone- it was frozen solid and is in the scrapyard. Sorry for those of you looking for it as a repower or whatever. I don't know if I can but I will try to lower the reserve to reflect the difference. Thanks all!
