Vehicle Detail
This is a NO RESERVE auction for a 1996 Chevy Camaro, V-6, 5 speed manual transmission, A/C (not blowing cold at the moment, previous refillings with freon have remedied this) cruise control, intermittent wipers, AM/FM cassette. The state inspection and license tags are all up to date and current. Don't ever tell me foreign cars are better than ones made here in the USA; this has been an amazing vehicle ever since my wife bought it new in 1996. It still looks great, starts every time and runs like a top. Best of all, it has never been wrecked, and has never been in a body shop. The body panels are straight and there is no rust on the body or under the car. The steering is still tight and precise, the tires have lots of tread left, the manual transmission shifts smoothly and precisely, the exhaust system is solid and quiet, and the car even gets very good gas mileage. I have gotten as good as 27 MPG average with careful driving habits. The interior is in good shape, though there have been a few coffee spills through the years. This car has been lovingly maintained since the day my wife first brought it home; especially so since it was her very first new car. But nothing used for this long is without some wear and tear. The car was driven daily between Huntsville and Hempstead, Texas for many years, a long commute to be sure. There are now 313,000 miles on the odometer. And while the car still looks great and drives very well, probably the most important repair it could use is a new windshield. The current one has a few nasty cracks (two photos show windshield cracks) and parts of it have been sand-blasted to partial opacity by miles and miles of wind and road dust. The headliner is sagging over the driver's seat, and hangs down on the driver's head, one of the sun visors has gotten a little loose and sloppy, swinging forward when stopping and back when accelerating. There is a fairly nasty crack in the plastic dashboard, and the lid to the center console storage bin has come loose. All just annoying little things. Under the hood, the big, long serpentine belt has a frayed spot and needs to be replaced pretty soon. Also, with this many miles on the engine, it's not a bad idea to check the oil regularly. It doesn't use much, but more than a new one. It doesn't blow any smoke however, or drip. The paint is still surprisingly good, though there are a few small parking lot dings, some hail damage pretty much limited to the hood (my wife made an insurance claim for this but never had it repaired) and some text scratched into the hood by a vandal, who was apparently interrupted and never finished whatever he was going to write. All in all, this is a great car that is a true veteran of Texas highways. Except for a couple of forays into Louisiana, it has never been driven out of Texas. In other words, no snow and ice or the salt poured on northern roads to melt the stuff. The chassis, drive shaft and suspension on this car is clean and rust free. I like to think that it will serve its new owner for a long time before needing any serious work. I would feel confident right now driving it cross-country. If you need a proven, good looking and excellent driving car cheap, this is the one. Finally, we have kept it around for years, even though my wife now has a new car, simply because it is like a member of the family. I hope to find a buyer that will love it as much as we have and take good care of it. If that sounds like you, then call me, my name is Peter and my cell phone number is 281-733-9797. Thanks for looking at this auction and good luck should you decide to bid!
