Just in time for spring -- we are parting with our 1974 Type 181 Thing! And in addition to the olive soft top shown here, we are also including a khaki hard top to add versatility. We purchased this vehicle approximately ten years ago in excellent condition and have lovingly maintained it -- with the help of two gifted VW mechanics in our hometown. Basically, everything works -- lights, wipers, heater -- and it has four brand-new tires with less than twenty miles on them. The engine is fantastic The only things that do NOT work are the odometer (frozen at 66,000+ miles) and there is a crack on the driver's side turn indicator light (see photos). We had it painted a couple of years ago and the body is without rust. We have also upgraded the two front side windows to The Thing Shop windows that open from back to front (much easier to navigate in the drive-through or getting the mail out of the box!). We will include the two original windows, too. It has been stored in our garage and in the winter, we keep a battery tender on it so that it's always ready to go. So why are we selling our beloved Thing? Well, our kids are in college and we just aren't driving it enough -- maybe fifty miles a year? We can't justify keeping it and could use the extra money for tuition. This Thing is ready for you to drive off to your household -- and ready to bring you the same joy it has brought to us!
