Vehicle Detail

1997 Nissan 240SX 82,000+ miles on chasse There are approximately 10,000 miles since SR20 swap. The motor and transmission have an estimated 50,000ish miles since new. Power: locks, mirrors, windows, steering, sun roof. Rear window defrost. Texas car, no rust or body rot. The vehicle was purchased at the height of the import drift craze and was used as a daily driver. Over the course of several years parts were amassed and in 2003 the car was modified with lots of stock JDM and aftermarket race quality parts to the tune of $36,000 (or so I am told). The modifications were not for passenger comfort or road-ability but for speed, handling and general bad-ass-ness. The car was pressed into daily service with all its modifications and was remarkably reliable. In late 2005 the car was parked and covered when the owner moved out of state. The car sat in the Texas elements until the summer of 2010 when it was brought back to life and operational condition. The car generally has (as my wife would say) “good bones” and is an excellent candidate for restoration and/or further modification to become either a daily driver or a full race setup. Either way the car can turn heads and make lots of smoke anywhere it goes. All systems are operational and for the most part complete. The car runs, drives and stops better than new. All the lights, locks, windows and accessories are in functional condition. I believe the car would pass safety inspection in any state or country. Currently the car is not inspected, registered, licensed or insured however, does have a clean Texas title. I would not hesitate to drive the car once it was brought into compliance with the local DOT. The only things in need of immediate attention are the tires (as they have light dry rot and cannot be considered reliable for highway use) and the wiper blades. The a/c was never installed after the swap however I believe that all the parts are present and could be installed in the future. The cruise control has been disabled and the radio face plate is missing. There are lots of spare parts included many of which are hard to find or expensive to replace. I believe that the majority of the parts are serviceable and can be kept as spares. Last summers maintenance included (but was not limited to) flush and fill of the cooling system, oil, power steering, breaks, clutch and fuel system. New spark plugs. A new battery was purchased and has been on a Battery Tender all winter. The fuel was mixed (70%) with Av Gas so that it would not go stale again. So as I indicated previously I believe the car is (from a mechanical perspective) ready to be driven. To be a great daily driver the paint and a/c need attention. The trunk, top and hood are peeling and need a sand and re-spray at the very least. Personally I was thinking of stripping the car and changing the color to Mercedes flat black with red accents… Ok the mods… I am not completely sure what or where they all are or what make or model they are. If you have specific questions please ask… and I will try to get any information I can. The motor is a Nissan SR20DET Black Top with: an S15 turbo and waste-gate, 550cc fuel injectors, 300ZX MAF sensor (several extras included) and a retuned ECU (don’t know who tuned it). The cooling system is stock JDM for the engine but there is a flush kit installed in the heater line. Both fans function properly. The wire harness was modified so the wipers would function properly. The transmission is a JDM 5-speed with a (very) short shift kit installed. All gears and synchronizers function properly and shifts are crisp and tight. The clutch is a race clutch and is very heavily sprung and is super grabby (also quite noisy.) If memory serves the clutch cylinders are from a 300ZX (larger bore). The drive shaft is also a Nissan part though it is just a factory version as we kept pretzeling aluminum ones. The differential is a VLSD unit from a 300ZX. (I have always been amazed by it. In order to get into my front drive one rear wheel will come off the ground and the diff will not allow it to spin freely!) The rear half shafts, front and rear hubs (bearing assemblies), rotors and calipers are 300ZX parts. All four corners have braided stainless flex lines and the master cylinder and booster are also 300ZX parts. All four wheels have spacers so the 300ZX wheels can be utilized and still preserve a stock looking offset. Many of the control arms are aftermarket units with more strength and adjustability. The struts are fully adjustable and are set very tight. (The car turns like it’s on rails… But it is a pretty punishing ride.) The in-tank fuel pump is a very large unit and the fuel pressure regulator is an aftermarket component. The filter assembly is also a 300ZX component. The alternator was rebuilt by an aircraft quality repair station that rewound it for 180 amps. The JDM wire harness was fitted to the car and the battery relocated to the trunk with a Summit kit. Intake and exhaust manifolds are stock JDM and the down pipe and exhaust are 3” aftermarket components (the sound is deep and excellent… No fart trumpet here! Just pure sweet performance.) There is an aftermarket chassis stiffener mounted forward of the lower front cross member and all the mounts for the engine and are aftermarket (as I recall). The longer I write the less I feel like selling… This is an honest car. It has been tuned up and is a great runner. The previous owner is a good friend of mine and I can attest to how the car was driven and babied. He worked in a large Nissan dealer’s internet parts sales department and had all the insight into the car and made educated decisions. The car was build for performance and reliability. I believe it has met the mark but after long years of storage needs a bit more TLC to become an awesome street machine once again. If you are looking for a daily driver with some bite or a sleeper for Friday nights, a restoration project or a car to take to the track this is an excellent place to start. The sale will be at a loss so it’s your gain. The car is available for inspection and is listed in other places so the seller reserves the right to cancel the auction at any time. Inspections must be arranged before the end of the auction. Please contact me with any questions. Shipping or pickup at the buyers discretion and expense. I am willing to discuss delivery options within 500 miles at the buyers expense. I can make the car available for pickup by buyer or shipping company. BIDDERS BEWARE… $1500.00 (USD) non refundable deposit due within 5 days of end of auction. BUYER BEWARE… Vehicle is being sold as-is, where-is. There is no warranty expressed or implied.
