Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is a rare one-owner 1968 GMC 2500 Pickup Truck with 4-wheel-drive and manually locking hubs. It is nearly all-original and was equipped with a large V6 from the factory and a 4-speed manual transmission. I’m not sure what size it is, but I think the engine is a 351. This vehicle was purchased new in New York in either ’67 or ’68 by my father (not sure, but the dealer placards are still riveted to the front fenders!!), and at that time NY did not require titles. After my father passed, it was titled for the first time in my name in the state of MD. The odometer currently shows 32,014. It quit just about the time of his passing and I put about a thousand extra on it. So, it really has about 33,500 miles on it. This vehicle is all-original with few exceptions. The only things I can recall him mentioning are: plywood over the bed – a homemade “bed-liner” if you will, a Draw-tite tow hitch, and more contemporary 235/85/16 Firestone radial tires. This truck was garaged up until about a year and a half ago, but has been sitting outside since then for a lack of space. The battery has died and needs to be replaced. With a jump it will turn over but won’t start because the carburetor is likely gummed up and needs to be cleaned and rebuilt. It last idled about eight months ago and the engine seemed to run pretty well all things considered. However, it does leak a little and most of the gaskets should be changed. The body is in decent condition (relatively speaking for a vehicle over 40 years old), but the rust is beginning to have its way. The passenger side needs a bottom cab corner, and the body needs attention in a few spots to prevent further deterioration. The inside is in quite good condition with no tears in the bench seat or dash. There is some minor mildew on the sun visors, and some rust on the kick plates. Otherwise, the door panels and the instrument panel are in great shape. It even has the original radio. Note: I do not know where the owner’s manual is, and I only have one original GM key. I hate to part with this truck on account of its sentimental value, but I don’t have the time to devote to it and I can’t bear to watch it sit any longer. It truly is a rare find and is waiting for someone who has the time and expertise to restore it to its full glory. Please read EVERYTHING below before placing a bid, and make sure to contact seller with any and all questions you may have before placing a bid! I will answer your questions in a prompt manner and will send further photos if requested. SERIOUS INQUIRIES ONLY PLEASE! This truck is being sold in “AS-IS” condition, and there is NO remaining factory warranty. Seller makes no guarantees as to this truck’s future performance and offers no warranty either expressed or implied. This truck will NOT be delivered, and it will be the sole responsibility of the buyer to take possession of it, or arrange pick-up/delivery by a third party as necessary. This truck will not be considered for trade, so NO TRADE REQUESTS PLEASE! There is a reserve appropriate for this truck’s rarity and originality. $250 NON-REFUNDABLE deposit must be received within 48 hours, and balance MUST be received within 7 days of auction’s close! Only payments made through PayPal or with cash at time of pickup will be accepted! No checks, thank you! Please take this into consideration given your distance from McHenry, MD and the necessary arrangements you will have to make to pick up the truck (or have someone else such as your shipping service pick it up, which will be binding) within 10 days’ time from the end of the auction. Remember, this truck will have to be put on a trailer, so please come prepared with a tow vehicle and trailer capable of handling a vehicle of this size and weight!!! This is one of the rarest examples of one of GMC’s most legendary trucks!! Thank you for looking and happy bidding!
