Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is a very nice 1948 Dodge Power Wagon. My sister and I recently inherited this car. My Dad was a Power Wagon enthusiast and found this old truck in poor condition and purchased it. He spent a few years working on it and turned it into this very nice truck that he occasionally used on his property, but mainly just drove it in the annual parade. It runs well and hasn't sat for any length of time since my Dad fixed it up probably about 5 years ago. My sister will be at the property on Saturday and can take a few more pictures or answer specific questions. My Dad was a very good mechanic and was very proud of the undercarriage. We would really like to sell this truck ASAP! We are very serious sellers - we have already sold the house where it is garaged and we don't have any spare garage space at our houses! On Feb-12-11 at 22:35:45 PST, seller added the following information: 02/12/11 Update: I'm sorry I haven't been able to answer a lot of specific questions!! I should have more information posted tomorrow (Sunday). I have a short video that you can watch if you are interested (hopefully the link works). Sorry about the kid in the background; I would edit it out if I had more than 5 days to figure out how to do it! : ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZqrB_bXC7VM On Feb-13-11 at 16:08:57 PST, seller added the following information: 02/13/11 Update: I am going to post some new pictures that were taken yesterday as well as a picture of my Dad in 2008 not long after the truck was completed. We got some additional information from one of the neighborhood kids who said he helped my Dad with the truck; I can't guarantee this is correct but hopefully you can look at the pictures and verify the information. - The engine, drivetrain, and wiring came from an 80s model Dodge Tow Truck that my Dad bought as a donor vehicle. The engine is a Dodge V8 318 OR 360. - Yes; it has power steering. - As far as we know, the 4 x 4 and wench work. I also wanted to post a few additional things that people have asked: - I have a State of California Certificate of Title (Pink Slip) that is in my name. I will also need a signed bill of sale. - If you want to have the vehicle shipped, I can meet the shipping company at the property. I can also store the vehicle for a short time (probably not garaged though) while you are arranging transportation. - I'll try to make this brief, but my Dad was born in 1944. His father was a mechanic and his mother was from a farm in Kentucky but came out to San Francisco and worked in the shipyards as a welder during the war. My Dad was always into cars, hot rods, etc., and learned a lot by working on his own cars (trying to keep them going!) in the 60s. He started a career as a welder, then got called to Vietnam where he did some type of mechanical work. He returned home and started the apprenticeship for the electrical union where he ended up working for almost 30 years (as a GF and also taught school). During this time, he had a 1969 El Camino that he was always working on among many other projects. He retired in the country where he was surrounded by trees and his workshop filled with every tool he ever desired and the land to store anything he needed. He was respected as a great mechanic by his peers and was able to repair almost anything (he built the first west-coast twin Cushman Eagle, rebuilt many tractors, many Cushmans, built a model locomotive, did a lot of the building of his two houses, and I'm sure a thousand other things I didn't know about). Sorry that wasn't so short, but wanted to give you guys some information that would hopefully enable you to better understand my Dad and what he did on the Power Wagon. - A short history of the Power Wagon: My Dad was looking for a Power Wagon "project car" for a long time and finally spotted one in someone's yard while driving; I'm sure it was in decent shape because I know my Dad said he was looking for something that wasn't all rusted up, but I am pretty sure it had been sitting in that person's yard for quite a while. He made an offer and they sold it to him. He probably waited a year or two before starting this major project, and I think it took him 1-2 years to complete it. Thanks again for looking and sorry for the long stories.
