Vehicle Detail
Up for your consideration is a "Barn Fresh" 1974 Jaguar XKE. My friend is the second owner of this car and has owned it since 1974, he bought it from a gentleman in Barrington Il with only 6,000 miles on it. The car currently has only 27772 miles on it. The car was put away in 1989 and sat stored in a barn, covered up and stored with a lot of mothballs and tin foil. The result is a time capsule of sorts. The owner of this car is very particular about the care of his cars and can promise that this car was waxed on a weekly basis when it was on the road. This can be seen in nice, original paint and chrome that is in great shape. There is dirt and patina all over the car but in general the car is in great shape. There is NO body rot of any sort on the car. We've gone over it pretty carefully and it's a great example of an original SOLID XKE. We took a couple minutes to clean up the bezel around the passengers side headlight and the chrome cleaned up like new. The bumpers, windshield surround and all the other bright work will clean up the same and will look great! There is no pitting or corrosion on any of the paint, just some dirt. The paint is in good original condition. Again, there is some patina to it and small nicks here and there but in overall amazing condition for a 37 year old car. The interior is in decent condition. The seats are presentable, with a little bit of cleaning and the door panels, the back seat and the dash are all in great condition. There are no cracks in the dash or nasty surprises. The soft top will need to be replaced. The car does come with the original, removable hard top in black and in similar condition as the rest of the car. We haven't touched the car mechanically at all, simply moved the car from the barn to a garage. This is a low miles original motor but will need to have some maintenance done on it in order to get in running condition. Things typical of a car which has sat for 22 years, R&R of some hoses, seals, fluids, plugs, wires, etc will more than likely need to be done. For a collector this is a rare opportunity for someone to grab an all original, rock solid, unmolested example of the last year of the famous 12 cylinder XKE. This car could be a simple clean up, light restoration project and you'd have a great, all original car, something almost unheard of in 2011. The car is located in NW Indiana and is available for inspection or viewing upon appointment. Please drop me a line if you'd like to check it out in person. There are numerous shipping services that can move the car from our garage to yours. Thanks for looking. I thought that I had made it abundantly clear in the auction that this car has sat for over 22 years and that it would need some attention and care in order to get up and running again. This is not a turn key car, it will need to be inspected and worked on by a professional or a true hobbiest that knows and understands cars and mechanics. What this car is, is an amazing time capusle with a rock solid body and great original features such as the chrome, interior and paint and body. If I went through the trouble of doing all the work to this car to have it in tip top running condition, I would NOT have had the reserve at $24,500; it would have been much higher. If you don't know cars or mechanics, PLEASE contact someone that you know who does before bidding on this car or contact me directly through ebay. If you contact me through ebay, I will gladly send you my phone number and we can talk and I can furbish information or pictures accordingly. Here is the copy I sent to the previous high bidder: Thank you for your interest in the Jag. I thought that I had made it very clear in the auction that this car has sat for over twenty years, covered in a barn. This car has NOT been maintained over the past twenty years but was put asleep in mothballs and was left untouched. Common sense dictates that you simply CANNOT push a car out of a barn after 22 years, charge the battery and start her up. The proper precautions and steps need to be followed to insure that no detrimental damage will be incurred. Any internal combustion which has sat for this long needs to have the spark plugs removed and have oil poured down each cylinder and given time to sit and penetrate. Then you turn the motor a little bit and add more oil. Continue to do this until the motor turns freely. Common sense also rules that you will need to replace the old hoses for the radiator, vac lines, gas lines, etc. THIS IS NOT A TURN KEY CAR, BUT A GREAT TIME CAPSUL THAT WILL REQUIRE NOT MUCH TO GET BACK ON THE ROAD!On Feb-11-11 at 08:23:24 PST, seller added the following information: IF YOU HAVE ZERO EBAY FEEDBACK, YOU NEED TO CONTACT ME BEFORE PLACING A BID ON THIS ITEM VIA TELEPHONE.
