Vehicle Detail
This Nissan Datsun Fairlady SPL310 has been in the family now for over 25 years. It has 77,000 original miles on the original engine and its 3 speed manual transmission. It has the dual Hitachi carbs, and the familiar Fairlady 3rd jump seat in the rear. The electronics are Positive ground, and the battery rests under the tiny rear seat. It has a low windshield, and sits very low to the ground as well! Its quite tiny at only an 85 inch wheelbase, and uses narrow 13 inch 560 13 size tires. Its a very unique and cute little vintage sports car from the early 1960s. What makes it special is the fact that it had all NOS metal installed on it in 1986! It’s a very solid Rare 3 seat Convertible. We purchased the Fairlady from the local Datsun dealer who had ordered all new sheet metal for the car years before with the intent to completely restore the car. All that metal came with the original sale! We were given new fenders, new rockers, and new quarter panels! Even at that time, those parts were not available! Luckily, the dealership had ordered the parts 10 years previous when those rare parts could still be ordered! Needless to say I am not happy with the cheap single coat respray that the local body shop decided to go with after installing those new body panels! It is obvious now that the thin coat of paint the shop installed has peeled away all over in spots! I can assure you, however, that all the metal on the exterior of this Fairlady is very very solid all the way around! The car simply needs to be repainted again to make it look really sharp! The car has been in storage and off the road now for over 10 years. In the fall I installed new brake shoes, rebuilt the wheel cylinders, and installed replacement master cylinders and their lines for both the brake and clutch. A few years ago the gas tank was replaced with a good used unit that was clean with no leaks. The carbs have been cleaned but not totally rebuilt. I have new points installed that were new in the box Datsun from 1964! Its Amazing what is still out there for sale for this rare model! I have everything for the car, as well as a few new trim parts, many used parts like complete carb assy, distributor and and literature, and almost all of it is original. The original top bows, as well as those weird long chrome side top fasteners, are all included. The wood top bow is in tact, and the fabric on the top was replaced in 1995. The top appears to be fine, BUT unfortunately it has shrunk! I simply can not get it to fit the car any more! You will have to have yet another fabric top made for the car unless you can figure out how to stretch this top almost 4 inches! I guess we should have left the top up longer than we did after getting it back from the shop way back when! Who knew that tops shrunk if you didn’t keep them installed up? at least the original tonneau cover has fared better, and it does fit the area its supposed to cover better. The SPL 310 is not Datsun Nissans first convertible offered in the USA, but it does have the distinction of being the first official Japanese Import Sports car model ever brought into the USA. Our import laws back in 1964 stated that 4,000 cars or more counted as a distinct official import model, and that is just about all the cars that Nissan made that were SPL310s! The total production just made the quota! This is a great deal for the right person looking for a bargain vintage collector convertible sports car that is both solid and complete! I’ve seen the same model advertised running restored for $13,000 and up! This is a great example of an unrestored original and complete SPL310 at a really low starting price! I can store the car for a while, so there is no rush if you not in the New York area where the car is located. Local pickups are always welcome. Also, If you use the Buy It Now option, please do what the process implies and actually Buy It Now, and not next week! I do need to hear from the successful bidder within the 72 hours that Ebay recommends. If you are an International bidder, then please email me first, as I do not readily accept non-USA bids. I am currently set up to accept Paypal, but I DO NOT accept Paypal E-Checks! They simply take too long to process, especially if used by International bidders. I am sure I will have many questions, and I will try and answer them as soon as possible. Thanks!
