Many MR2 enthusiasts consider the first year production 1985 MK1 Hardtop as the most desirable/coveted of all successive models. Lotus started working with Toyota in the early ‘80s and the company was involved with the development of the original Toyota MR2. Handles like a dream on rails and the engine runs like a Swiss watch. Here we have a fine example with only 66,000 miles of mid-engine performance and handling characteristics of exotics at a fraction of the cost to own and maintain. Think Ferrari, Lamborgini, Lotus, or Acura NSX. Vehicle originally used as a summer car in Virginia and stored indoors all winter. Brought to California by collector in 2009 and acquired late last year. Car is in amazing condition and is complimented all the time. There is a small amount of oxidation and minor paint cracks on the front hood. Other than that it looks like a new car not one that is 26 years young!!! Leather OEM seats in great condition. Much better than the standard cloth and vinyl Desirable original equipment attributes: Hardtop – Structurally superior and lighter than all models with sunroof or t-top. Plus it can’t leakJ. Manual windows/locks – Again lighter and more efficient than power accessories (thank you Lotus). Factory rear sway bar- Black leather seats/ interior trim, cruise control, a/c. List of recent upgrades though I’m sure to forget something. All routine maintenance/upgrades completed within the past month of ownership or 1000 miles. All performed by certified Toyota specialist with genuine OEM Parts: Total $1871.31 with receipt for all parts and labor Replaced timing belt, tensioner, front engine seals (cam & crank), water pump, thermostat, coolant, and correct air bleed from entire cooling system. Valve adjustment and new valve cover grommets and gaskets. Oil cooler housing O rings. Replace distributor body and set timing. Lube, oil, and filter. Throttle intake hose, air flow meter to throttle body replaced. Engine just purrs. Ready for another 100,000 miles!!! New tires: Bridgestone Potenza AS Pole Position ($450), New stereo: Sony Explode BT2700 CD/Receiver with built in Bluetooth and Morel Maximo coax speakers ($275). Suspension includes Tokico Illumina 5 way adjustable struts/shocks and Eibach springs. Another $650 plus labor. When was the last time you saw an MR2 that looked like this one?
