These cars are simply stunning and while the new cars are still wonderful by today’s standards they are all destined to the junk yards when their computer software systems are no longer supported by the factory. These superbly crafted motorcars will continue to be roadworthy due to their pure mechanical simplicity. A guy with a good set of tools and a manual will always be around to work on these gems from Mercedes Benz. Much the same way cars from the 20’s and 30’s are rebuilt and maintained so simply today. The paint on these cars from that era will outlast the new paints ten to one. If you are looking for a true fun, weekend car with collector appeal one of these examples would be a great way to go. I use the words “Time-Capsule” judiciously… but I have to use it in my description of this fine motorcar. This magnificent and rare Garnett Red 560SL Is simply stunning In every detail. An immaculate and well cared for three owner car that will please the most discriminating buyer. Less than 5700 miles per year since sold new. It comes fully loaded with all power options. Includes 5.6 Liter Engine, 5-Speed Auto Trans, Leather Interior Seating, Leather Wrapped Steering Wheel, Burled Walnut Wood Interior Console and Trim. Becker AM/FM Stereo Cassette, Power Windows, Power Locks, Passenger Side Power Mirror and Cruise Control, A Gorgeous Set of Original Style 16” Chromed Alloy Wheels and Optional Hardtop. The Body on this vehicle appears to have never been touched and Is simply Pristine. I have restored close to twenty classics in the last fifteen years and am very picky about the body and paint. My specialty is Survivor cars and this is one of the nicest I have ever put my eyes on. There are zero dings with just a couple of minor scratches on the entire body. The original orange peel from the factory baked paint job matches from panel to panel all the way around the car. This car has always lived a life indoors and it shows. All the trim pieces on the car are like brand new. The rubber on the car is supple with no signs of cracking anywhere. The black trim around the bumpers is like that of a brand new car with no scuffs or marks … simply amazing. The Chrome Bumpers are bright and blemish free as are the set of Chrome Wheels. The Chrome is like new with no wheel rash or pitting anywhere. The Top was replaced by the Second Owner and looks to be a factory Mercedes Top… simply FLAWLESS. The plastic window is clear and unblemished. The optional Hardtop is in perfect condition and comes with the car. The Interior looks almost BRAND NEW, though it is 100% Original from what I can tell. The leather hides are unblemished and show no bolster wear or cracking of any kind. The current owners have always covered the seats with Sheepskins and believe the other owners to have done the same. I have never seen leather so nice on a 22 year old car. The dash is near perfection as are the gauges, carpets and door panels. The burled wood console is in new type condition. A neighbor of mine came over and walked into my garage yesterday and said “I feel like it is 1989 and I am standing in the showroom of Fletcher Jones Mercedes Benz”. That is the beauty of these cars from that era; they were built to a higher standard. One that MB can only come close to mimicking today as the material standards have diminished drastically in an attempt to compete on price with the Asian car manufacturers. It is my firm belief that these Mercedes SL’s from the late 80’s will become some of the most sought after collectors items in the not too distant future. These cars are elegant to look at and as pleasurable to drive as any new car. The ride quality is superb. The Engine and Transmission on this little gem perform flawlessly, it is smooth and quiet and floats down the road like a REAL Mercedes Benz. The car starts right up and everything works exactly as it should. The car drives down the freeway straight as a arrow as the suspension is as tight as a drum. The Tires have nearly 70% tread remaining and the brakes pads are relatively new with plenty of life left. The newly converted AC System blows ice cubes on a hot summer day.
