Up for auction is a very rare Mercedes, in deed. This vehicle was purchased new in 1960 by a good friend of mine. He purchased the car in Colorado and 3 days later, drove it out to California. He was very proud of this car, however his wife wasn't. He drove this car for a few years about 25 miles each day, 5 days a week. In 1972, his sister gave him an old Buick. So, he drove this car into his garage and it never saw the light of day again...until just a couple of months ago. My good friend passed away and I received the car from his estate. I intended to restore her, however, times and funding have changed and I can no longer work on her. This car has an original 82K miles, still sports her original black plates, and has been garaged for nearly 40 years!! She does come with the original owners manuals and misc. original receipts. The car only suffered minor issues while in his garage. There are a few flat dents on the roof from him storing boxes on top. There are also various small dents here and there, but overall, very straight and clean. There is also some small rust perforation in the trunk wells, but minor. The rest of the chassis is surprisingly clean and tidy. I believe the paint is 90% original, with what looks like maybe the driver's fender repainted sometime before 1972, hard to spot unless you really look close. No body damage evident, may have had only paint damage. We did crank her for a bit to get some oil pressure up and gave her a spray of starting fluid. She started right up!!! Sounded good, but we only ran her for 30 seconds. She will need ALL of the basic items required for awakening a car of this age, that has been sitting for so long. The tires are old biased and are holding air! All moving body parts open and close very tight, as one would expect from a low mileage car. The things I know that are missing/needed are: 1. One wheel outer trim ring. 2. Shifter rod bushing kit (rods are off right now) 3. All service items checked/replaced, fluids replaced. gas tank cleaned. 4. Exhaust work. 5. Tires, brakes, etc. 6. Grill needs new horizontal bar kit, but not wrecked or damaged. Pictures are deceiving and the hood was not latched at time of photos. Actually, the photos explain everything. She needs a major amount of restoration work, but the car itself is very, very solid and starting with a low mileage California car like this one is the way to go. Most of these cars have had 10 owners by now, but not this one, only one owner who loved this car and always wanted to put her back on the road.. I wish I could fulfill his dreams. Consider this car needing various restoration work in all areas like chrome, interior, etc. She is much more solid than you would think. Give her a chance, she has a lot of miles left in her. Comes with original keys, spare, jack, lug wrench, books, and some records. A rare opportunity to own a low mileage, California classic Benz. Comes with Bill of Sale only. The California title was lost and hasn't been found by his children when they cleaned out his home. I do have a bill of sale from the executor of his will.
