1967 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible Restored to Original Condition This very well cared for and loved 1967 VW Beetle Convertible would make the perfect Christmas gift for that special person on your list. I’ve owned this car for about 3 ½ years and have maybe put 2000 miles on it. This is not your typical amateurish halfway done car. Everything is correct for the car and the work was done properly. If you know anything about the 1967 Beetle Convertible – you know what a rare and unique car this is. According to VW production figures, there were only 7597 of these models produced in 1967. I purchased it from the widow of the 78 year old gentleman who had the restoration done in the late 90’s. Having the privilege of previously meeting him and discussing with him everything he had done to the car over the years prior to his passing, he also told me he bought it from the original owner in 1978 who took delivery of it at the Volkswagen dealership here in Portland, Oregon in 1967. He drove the car for a couple of years then put it in storage prior to restoring. I’ll try to list as much as I can about the things he did – what I’ve done with the car since I’ve owned it, and what you may want to consider doing yourself. Work Completed By Previous Owner · Complete stripping of the old paint and painted in the original “Poppy Red” color*. The paint is still very bright and rich and what I would consider a “9” out of 10 only because of a few small touched up rock chips on the hood. · Complete engine rebuild during restoration process. (I had originally stated the odometer was set at 0 when the restoration was done. This was incorrect, I had it confused with one of my other cars. Although the condition of the car is in better shape than the miles on the odometer would indicate, I cannot say for a fact whether or not the reading is accurate). · New rubber window and door gaskets all around. · New tires – tread is about 90%. *Note: In some of the photos, the paint appears to have an orange tint. this is as a result of lighting when taking photos. It is the original 1967 VW Poppy Red - which is a true red. Work Performed Since I Took Ownership · New black pinpoint vinyl top installed August, 2009 and is like brand new (the existing top was fine – it was white and I prefer the red/black combo. · Complete engine tune up. · Complete new (correct) rubber flooring plus TMI interior installed including seat covers, door panels and armrests in August 2010. The car now has that new car smell again! · New windshield replaced plus window gaskets front and rear. · Replaced a few misc old and broken trim pieces and one broken window crank with 1967 correct parts. · New rear shocks. What I Would Recommend To Completely Finish the Car Completely · Upon installation of the convertible top, the installer bent the chrome trim for the rear window and completed the installation without it. I would recommend installing this piece. · This car is equipped with a Sapphire VI Am/8 Track radio (pictured). It is not connected and I’ve never tried to connect it. I don't know if it works. · There is minor corrosion of the strip on the bottom of the door sills where the carpet attaches to the body. This is not a major repair, you will see this in the photos of the running boards. · The bumpers are both straight and in excellent condition – a couple of the over riders have a few dings in them. Again a very simple replacement of parts. · Because I’ve not done it this year, it’s due to have the valves checked and adjusted. · The engine weeps a very minor amount of oil when parked - just a few drops over the period of a month or so. Because it's not that bad, I haven't been under the engine to see exactly where the source is. This car is in excellent condition and always draws a crowd, compliments and thumbs - up wherever I drive it. The vehicle is straight and rust free - including the floor pan and battery box. It starts right up after sitting for a while, and runs very strong and smooth. Both the previous owner and myself have always kept it garaged and covered up, and have never driven it in the rain. You won’t be disappointed. The one and only reason I’m selling this car is that I just don’t drive it and it's taken me 6 months to come to the decision to sell. As mentioned above, I’ve put about 2k miles since taking ownership, and this summer I barely burned ½ tank of gas driving it. I’m just not using the car so there really isn’t any reason for me to keep it around, therefore I’m offering it up for auction to someone who will drive and enjoy it. You will note in the photos that this vehicle has never been hit in the front end plus there is no evidence of it ever having been in an accident of any kind. This is a no reserve auction so - bid early and Bid Often! Don't let yourself be one of those people who says "I had a chance to buy a really nice, original 67 Beetle convertible but missed it by just a few dollars". The Fine Print: I am representing this vehicle in the best and most honest and complete way possible - As I have not been the owner since new, there is no possible way to know it's entire history therefore I cannot be responsible for any errors, oversights or omissions in my description. If you have any specific questions PLEASE email me prior to bidding. If you are serious and would like to arrange an inspection before bidding, please contact me. I would be pleased to make every effort to meet with your inspector. If you need any photographs of specific locations on the car, let me know and I'll do my best to provide you with one asap. Once the auction is over, there is no inspection period allowed. Because of it's a 44 year old car, it is being sold as is with no warranty. A deposit of $1,000 is due within 48 hours after the end of auction via paypal. The balance is due within 3 days after the end of auction with payment terms as stated above. This vehicle is also being offered for sale locally. Because of that, I reserve the right to end the auction early and cancel all bids if the vehicle is no longer available or otherwise SOLD. If you can't wait until the end of the auction and want to make an offer, please contact me through messaging. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer - I will gladly meet with your transporter at a pre-arranged time. My zip code for shipping quote purposes is 97214. I've used and reccomend DAS Shipping for cars I've bought and sold between the east and west coasts. They've always done a fantastic job for me plus, Ebay reccomends them as well. I've bought and sold quite a few cars via Ebay over the years - check my feedback... Sorry, the blue Oregon license plates shown in the pictures are not included with the car.
