This will be known as the era when sports cars were still sports cars, seat of the pants, simple and more than fun to drive. In this era when it came to sticking the rubber to the planet Earth nobody delivered it better than Ferry Porsche and his team of engineers. Simple air cooled, fuel injected engines ruled the day. Those days are forever gone and while Porsche still pushes the envelope in every manner possible there is just something magical about a Porsche from this era that truly epitomizes the real spirit of 911’s. And if you like turning a wrench these are actually workable without using a computer. When it comes to Porsche ownership there has always been a certain type of guy that is drawn to their behavioral characteristics. Some will say that it is the engineer, the guy that is driven by precision and accuracy. Many a Porsche has fallen into the hands of these guys and equally as many have been pushed to the limits of their abilities by the same. And how many times have you seen a Porsche advertised as “doctor owned”. Yeah, lots. Doctors are known for their detail to exactness as well as many other characteristics. Pristine condition comes to my mind. No expense sparred to keep their things in top condition is another. Well our little gem here truly was owned by a doctor in Mission Viejo, CA for the first twenty years of its life. I called him to get some background information on this truly stellar example and he called me back the same day and talked for fifteen minutes about the car. He seemed delighted to talk about the car and his passion was obvious. By the way if you really want to know who he is I will furnish his name, location and phone number, but I am not going to put it in the ad. You seriously serious guys out there are welcome to inquire. I am selling this car for a friend of mine that has owned the car since 1-24-09. He is a fireman, and a meticulous one to say the least. His attention to detail on this car is beyond phenomenal and is about as picky a buyer as he is an owner. Under his tutelage the car has undergone some extensive mechanical restoration to make the car as near perfect as could be. The car runs and drives simply like it is brand new. I have driven many of these cars and sometimes they can feel sloppy. This car is as tight as a brand new one. I defy anyone to drive this car and tell me it is not the nicest one they have ever driven from this era. My name is Frank Mattingly and I have been involved with restoration, paint and body work for over 25 years. I would not call myself an expert in Porsche, but I have pulled many apart and done partial to full restoration on 911’s for many years. I have not seen a nicer SC with 113K miles on it in my life. I have only seen a handful of totally restored or unmolested under 10K mile cars that compare to this survivor 911SC Coupe. I consider myself somewhat of a freak, but even I could not have kept this car to this level of presentation. To say I am a survivor car whack-o would be an understatement of grand proportion. I own eleven cars and six of them are stellar survivor examples in all categories. This has to rank up there as one of the best I have ever seen. I would already own this car myself if one of my cars had sold last week. ABOUT THE CAR Absolutely Fabulous Guards Red Sunroof Coupe with Black Interior. This is a Four Owner, Never Hit Unmolested Body Survivor. I would call this vehicle a very strong Show/Driver. All of the owners of this car have been certifiable Porsche FREAKS. The First owner was a Doctor in Mission Viejo, CA and kept it as his weekend fun car for twenty years before selling it to a gentleman in Palos Verdes, CA who kept it briefly and sold it to his neighbor who kept if for a for three and a half years. Only 10K miles on the car from the last three owners. The current owner has had the car since 1-24-09 and has done quite a bit of mechanical restoration to make the car as nearly perfect as one can get it. He would not sell this car except he needs the money for some other financial obligations. OWNERSHIP HISTORY 1st Owner (purchased new 3-18-83) Mission Viejo, CA 92691 2nd Owner (purchased 6-26-03 with 102,120 miles) Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275 3rd Owner (purchased 7-30-2005 with 106,112 miles) 3rd owner is a neighbor of the 2nd owner Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275 4th and current owner (1-24-09 with 108,105 miles) Corona, CA, 92879 BODY & PAINT The main reason I called the original owner (Doctor in Mission Viejo) was because I was really thrown for a loop with this car. When I first saw the car I thought for sure it was an original paint car, because it simply had that period look to the paint. I studied it and studied it but could not figure it out. We know that the second and third owners did not paint the car. My first question to the Doctor was did he ever paint the car. He stated that when he sold the car to the second owner the car had the original paint and it was near flawless. I cannot find any fault with the body or paint anywhere on the car. The color on the paint panels match all the way around the car. There is no evidence anywhere of any body work ever being performed on the car. IF this car WERE repainted somebody took it down to a perfect body and took off EVERYTHING and repainted it. But I just don’t see it. I truly believe the car is a survivor original paint job that has just spent its entire life indoors away from the sunlight. This shows on all the paint, rubber, trim and interior parts. If it were repainted it was a $10K job at a minimum. The car comes with a very high-end Colgan Bra Front & Rear and probably explains why there is just a few rock chip touch-ups to the front-end. The car looks like it rolled out of the Porsche Factory paint booth last week. Truly remarkable. I would rate the paint a 9.7 out of ten for overall appearance and 10.0++ for a Survivor. Either way it is an outstanding body and paint car. The body is VIRGIN. INTERIOR The Interior on the car is a 9.8. The Seats, Dash, Door Panels and Carpets are all in like new condition. The only imperfection is the Driver Seat has a wear and slight separation to the outside bolster (see picture). The outer panel could be replaced in a day by most upholstery shops. It just is not that noticeable in the grand scheme of things, but probably if you were going to have the car judged you would want it repaired. I suspect the front seats may have been recovered at some point but I cannot be positive because they match the rears perfectly. This is another really hard call for me because I am not an expert on materials from one year to the other. The Headliner looks 100% original and perfect. The original sunvisors have the typical sag look to them and could probably use replacement. RECENT MECHANICALS 7-23-05 106112 miles, R&R all Brake Pads & Rotors. Rebuilt Front & Rear Calipers. R&R Front Inside and Outside Wheel Bearings. Inner Grease Seals. R&R both Front Tie-Rod Ends & Lubricated. Upon purchase of vehicle in 2009, the most recent owner performed the following maintenance at Tom’s Foreign Autohouse in Temecula, CA. Details of the work performed can be found on the attached receipts. The work performed by Tom’s totals $8,115.41. The blower motor is currently not working and needs R&R and is the only mechanical issue on the car. The part is around $250 and a pretty simple removal process. The car runs and drives FLAWLESSLY, is very quick and handles like a go-cart. It is tight like it was driven by a Grandmother. The vehicle was smog tested 10-28-10 and California registration was renewed on 11-16-10. The registration is current through 11-16-11. Simply put this is one of the nicest SC’s you will find. When was the last time you heard of a car that has spent its entire life in the hands of owners that live in a radius of about 50 miles of each other. This car has only known life in Southern California in a GARAGE. Meticulously owned by four owners. This is simply as nice as it gets. You would be proud to show up at any Porsche Show in this car and would likely do very well in judging standards. Any further questions may be answered by sending an email through eBay or by calling Frank at 949-310-6262. The car is currently in my garage in San Clemente, CA.
