Vehicle Detail
One of my most prized possessions must be sold to enable a new undertaking. Although I have done minor maintenance work on this matching numbers R50, the bike was completely restored by one of the top BMW motorcycle restoration authorities in the US, Barrington Motor Works owned and operated by Chris & Barbara Betjemann in Barrington New Hampshire. About 400 miles ago, Chris disassembled this R50/2 and completed a precision major engine overhaul together with related components as well as a powder coat of the frame. The bike retains its original sheet metal as it is still near perfect after 43 years of service. Original is best as it speaks to the care given to the machine thru out its lifetime and maintains its original natural beauty without the aid of make up. What you see is what it truly is. I have all of the correspondence from Chris during the R50s restoration as well as a multitude of pictures taken through out the process. For an idea of how Chris and Barbara work visit their website www.barringtonmotorworks.com or, for the price of $105, get a copy of their latest book The Barrington Motor Works BMW /2 Restoration and Service Manual, a guide for the BMW /2 Owner Restorer. The manual was finalized at 512 pages with 425+ photographs and 60+ original drawings and is well worth the investment. My R50/2 is not perfect but it is close. Enough so that for a particularly fussy person like myself it was love at first sight. The attached pictures are high resolution so I encourage you to enlarge them and look closely at, in my opinion, one of the nicest original R50s in our country. My feedback will attest to my honesty as a seller and the Betjemann reputation stands alone as one of the most knowledgeable and most professional BMW restorers in business today. . Please feel free to ask any questions you might have or for more pictures of any part of the bike that peaks your curiosity. My email address is rthompson@ne.rr.com or call me directly at 603-352-4619 in New Hampshire. Now for all of the disclaimers. I will be happy to work with the winning bidder to assist in the shipping process but the cost of shipping will be entirely the responsibility of the new owner. The bike is being sold in an as-is condition which is typical of sales such as these even though I know of no faults that exist.. The bike is in my personal collection where it is warm and dry so anyone is welcome to view the bike just call me so we can make arrangements. I require a deposit of $1000 payable within 72 hours of the auction’s end either by cash or bank check. The balance will be due no later than seven days from the auction’s end, again, either by cash or bank check. I find Paypal to be far too expensive in major transactions such as these although I have been using their services for years. I have no problem storing the bike under certain circumstances which I will be glad to discuss with the new owner.
