New injectors installed and balanced, this engine purrs.. 2. New pencil type glow plug conversion..faster starts, even when freezing cold. 3. All new shocks..rides like a dream.. 4. Blower fan service..the one that is hard to get to. 5. All seat foam replaced, comfy for the tush. 6. New headliner The 300D I am offering here is a beautiful low mile example of a touring sedan. We bought this Mercedes 3 years ago from the estate of the original owner. It had only 82k miles. In the time we have owned it, we have only added about 19k miles. The odometer has just turned over for the first time. The estate put the car up for sale at the auto service place that had been servicing the car for the 10yrs prior to us buying it. The original owners only used the car during the summer to travel, hence the low miles and the auxiliary 25 gallon fuel tank. When we bought the car, I took a greyhound to where the car was for sale, paid for it, fueled up and drove 5 ½ hours home. It is ready for the next fly in and drive home. We have taken several road tips with this great car. With the auxiliary tank it is possible to drive almost 1200 miles before having to get fuel again. We have really enjoyed this Mercedes and wherever we go people dig it. It always gets looks and questions when we drive it. So be ready with answers and “no I am not looking to sell” when you drive around this classic. The 300d runs excellent, eating up mile after mile in comfort. It gets on average 24 mpg avg in the city and we have gotten over 32 mpg on the hwy. With the new glow plug system, newer battery, and new injectors, that were balanced, it starts easier than my new suburban. It was 28 degrees this morning and I went out and it started right up like a top. One of the first things I did was to have the seat stuffing replaced. The original stuffing is a rubberized horse hair that breaks down over time. It now has modern seat foam installed. The seat covers are original and only has one blemishes, and it is repaired (see photo) . I also had the headliner replaced as it had a couple small holes. The dash has one small crack(see photo) The previous owner removed the map pockets on the front doors. I am glad they did as it makes getting in and out for me easier with my big feet. Over the last three years we have invested time and money making this classic Mercedes run and look great. Tires, transmission service, engine optimizing( cruise at 75 on the hwy all day and still get over 30 mpg) and a gaggle of other things. It has the original Becker stereo with a very rare and functioning Becker cassette deck in the glove box. The radio works very well and gets good reception even though the auto antenna mast is missing. The rest of the power antenna is there it just needs a new mast. All the power windows work. The Door lock system functions perfectly. It even works for the trunk and fuel door. The heater works great and properly, as does the air conditioning. The a/c has been converted to R134a. All thing function as designed with the exception of the cruise control, even the clock works! The body is the original paint and is devoid of rust with the exception of a small area near the head lights. There is some paint missing on the driver’s side rear wheel arch. Both of these areas shown in photos. There is also a photo of the driver side floor pan, no rust. The paint polishes up nicely. All glass is clear and free from cracks. The rear defroster even works. All emblems are there and in excellent shape. There are some little blemishes on the rear bumper chrome cover (see photos) overall the chrome shows very well. This classic Mercedes is in very good shape and I would not hesitate to drive it cross country. It is however not a new car and it is over 34 years old. That said, feel free to ask questions and it is available for onsite inspections and if you are local, you can take it to your mechanic of choice and have it inspected. I will include with the sale all my manuals for this car, repair and rebuild kit for the injectors with new injectors, valve adjust kit, and some other spare parts. All in all over $600 in value. As a bonus, with auxiliary tank already installed, it makes a perfect candidate for a veggie diesel conversion.Shipping is paid for by buyer. I will work with your shipper. I will also be happy to deliver the car to you up at Portland International Airport, so you drive it home. Car must be picked up with in 5 days of auction end unless arrangements are made in advance with me.Thanks,Vince
