Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is a beautiful example of a 1980 BMW 528i e12 sedan in phenominal original condition with only 44,108 original, pampered miles. This BMW 528i features all it's original working components; with it's legendary silky smooth M30 inline six cylinder motor. This motor is noted for it's linear power delivery and turbine like smoothness. This low mileage BMW has the original factory Polaris Silver paint, original BMW exhaust as stamped and seen in photo, Blaupunkt cassette stereo, BMW coco/sisal floor mats, BMW sunroof visor, cold air conditioning, and complete factory tool kit. This 528i is free of any dents and has never needed any collision repair. The engine, transmission, and differential does not leak any fluids. The engine performs as it should with such low mileage and does burn oil or smoke in any way. The interior is tobacco free and shows minimal wear. There is no tears or splits in the upholstery wich is BMW navy vinyl. This car drives and performs perfectly. No wobble or shimmy in the steering at any speed. The suspension is stock Boge struts and affords a typical BMW ride that is compliant over bumps, yet offers spirited handling characteristics. The brakes stop the car effortlessly in a straight line with no pulling to either side. The transmission shifts almost unnoticed with extremely smooth gear changing. The BMW factory exhaust gives the car a bit of a raspy growl without being too obtrusive (no exhaust leaks whatsoever). Recent service includes the following: New BMW fuel hoses and fuel filter replaced, new BMW coolant hoses and drive belts, oil and filter service, Ate front brake pads with new Brembo front rotors with complete Ate brake fluid bleed service, new updated 134a refrigerant compliant air conditioning hoses with appropriate o rings to make A/C system 21st century friendly (works great), Redline brand fluids in transmission, differential, and coolant system. Items not original to car that I deem to be upgrades: Ziebart rust proofing service done when car was new, Hella H1 and H4 halogen headlights greatly improve night time driving and safety, rear adjustable head restraint/rest kit purchased from Europe and reupholstered to match interior, greatly increases rear passenger safety and comfort. 16" Alpina style wheels from Vintage auto Parts (as advertised in Roundel magazine) with Pirelli P6 205/55/16 tires on all four corners greatly improve handling and road feel without feeling too harsh or looking too hoochie mama. Exhaust tips were already installed when I purchased the car, and look pretty good, but are not BMW brand, Interstate brand battery, and thats about all I can think of. Also included with sale of this car: five original turbine/alpina style BMW factory wheels in very good condition with Dunlop tires 85% new (spare tire still has it's original tire), BMW jack, wheel chock and tool kit. All the BMW owners manuals, brochures and Haynes repair manual, maintenance receipts, and, of course, a clear New York State title. This car is over 30 years old and is not perfect. Although minor, items to take note are the following: The dashboard has some small cracking as seen in one picture near the seatbelt warning indicator on top of the dashboard, the polyurethane on the walnut trim on the drivers door has some chipping near the window switches, there is typical yellowing on the headliner only near the "C" pillars (near back window) as seen in the picture...this is due to these are the point where the interior air exits the vehicle, the exterior of the front hood is the only part of this car that does not have it's original paint. It was repainted due to a rust bubble on the front passenger corner that still persists as seen in photo. The rear drivers side door has a very tiny bubble in the paint below the black molding that is too small to photo. I bought the car with these imperfections and they have not worstened in over three years. Between the limited use and low mileage, garaged storage, and Zibart rustproofing, this car has virtually no rust other than mentioned above. There is a small surface scratch on the trunk that does not show up on photos. The drivers seat inside cushion has some wear but still affords pretty good comfort. I purchased this car in June of 2007 from an estate broker in Missouri and had it shipped via truck to New York. I believe I am the second or third owner. I am missing some maintenance history that was lost in the estate sale. As a BMWCCA club member, I have used this car for club events (no racing...show only) such as Oktoberfest 2008 at Watkins Glenn, Vintage at the Vinyards in N.C., Vintage at Saratoga, N.Y., occasional Sunday drives weather permitting, etc. Other times, this car was covered and kept garaged... always; obviously no winters. My plans for this car was to install european front and rear bumpers, install a five speed manual transmission (which is basically a nuts and bolts affair). However, other obligations and lack of storage/workshop space dictate otherwise, thus the decision to sell. By the way, if you are interested in this car, but frown upon the original automatic transmission, I can supply with the sale of this car, a Getrag 265 five speed manual transmission and other related manual drivetrain items needed to convert to a manual. These components are from a 1981 BMW 528i, and would include just about all you would need to bolt in the 5 speed. I will offer this manual drivetrain, if wanted, at little or no additional cost depending on the final sale price of the car. Please keep in mind inspections and test drives of this car are welcomed and encouraged. I would gladly bring this car to any local, third party garage for inpection upon request. Shipping of any kind would have to be arranged by you. I would not hesitate to drive this car across the continent so consider flying in, and driving home an option. I believe I covered a lot here but questions are always welcomed. This car is N.Y sate inspected through the end of 2010. Poor or very low low feedback ebay scores are subject to bid cancellations and bidding bans...please contact me prior to bidding. Good luck and happy bidding. Thanks for looking.
