hello! what a great all original 56 mercury monterey phaeton 4 door hardtop. 35,595 original miles. brought back to life after last being driven around 82. i have installed a new water pump, all new brakes including master cylinder and brake lines. the car is equipped with a 312 engine, automatic, power steering, town and country radio with a very rare and working power antenna! also a still very nice set of accessory mercury spinner wheel covers. while this is an original car it is an ohio car and is not being described as a cherry original. it was rural car subject to the back roads and decent but not perfect storage. there is nothing mint any where, alot of very nice and some flaws i will describe in detail now. the body- totally original and untouched. extremely solid overall and underneath.the frame, floors, crossmember, body supports, trunk, inner rockers, inner and outer quarters, wheel wells and lips are rust free. that is all factory under coat you see. the only rust out areas are as follows. the area in front of the wheels where the skirt brackets screwed on caught some mud over the years and the driver side had weakened to the point of not being able to hold the skirt and has broken away, it includes the small panel behind the lowest piece of trim. it is not a real complex repair, i still have the skirt bracket that came off. it will need a patch at the very end of the rocker there. the passenger side has the same issue but no where near as bad. i beleive the lip where the skirt bracket is weak could be replaced and that would be it. also its obvious that both front fenders need a patch at the bottom. it is very contained, the braces are good and the fender bottoms are still bolted solidly to the inner fenders. if you reach your hand underneath the drivers side fender eye there is some rust that does not affect the outer appearance at all. other than that it is extremely solid car. it might blow some pinholes through in a few spots if it was sandblasted for paint work. but it would be minor. the car does have some road rash as evident on the drivers side fender, it can bee seen on the rockers and quarters here and there. it is still a driver quality body, but does need the metioned rust repair, paint chips some minor dings and dents, even some very thin paint in areas. ask for pics. interior is still very very nice. some normal wear as expected dash pad inside foam has deterioated but the pad is still good. the carpet is gone in front but still has the original mercury heel pad in place. the original mercury man rear mats are still in place. seats are very nice as the headliner and door panels.glass overall still very nice. town and country hums and scans, should need a minor service. working power antenna. clock works on the road. all lights and turn signals working as is horn. the motor runs great and trans shifts smooth. as mentioned new brakes and water pump, complete exhaust. power steering cylinder does leak a little. the car has a very good set of bias tires that are quite roadworthy. the stainless is all very nice with one piece with a bigger ding. the chrome is alittle better than average. there is alot of originality in this car. the trunk area mat and cardboards are all original and still very nice. original jack. thats all i can think of now. come see it, come drive it. drive it home? it should be fine but it is an old car if yougoing really far. ask questions and for specific pictures. i will hide nothing. if i was keeping it i would have the car painted and just pick at the smaller items as needed. thats up to ypu. thanks!
