Vehicle Detail

You are looking at an extremely nice Southern California VW Super Beetle. The vehicle is owned by my good friend John, he just turned 80 and needs to sell his little gem. The car recently (couple of thousand miles) went through a complete rebuild on the original engine. It runs like a swiss watch. John use to be a VW Dealer back in the good old days and knows these cars. This is a good one. The car has rolled over once so it has 118K miles on the body from new. The car is TIGHT!!! The body on this car is an absolute virgin. Absolutely never been hit and never had a spot of rust. When you look all down inside the front trunk area of the car and in the engine bay all the paint is original. The fenders and doors are all original to the car and there is no evidence of body damage ever. The body is the most important part of an old car to me and this one is as nice and as straight as you will ever find. (BTW I restore cars in my other life so I know what I am talking about) The doors close perfectly as well the trunk and engine lid. Everything lines up perfectly with all gaps exactly as they should be from the factory. Nice solid original California Veedub. The paint is in really nice shape. It almost looks like a completely original survivor, but it has been painted once in the original color. They did a good job though and masked it really well as there is no overspray anywhere on the car, that is what really through me off. It looks more like a period correct paint job… not a two stage paint.. but single stage. It looks great and again almost original looking. We don’t know what the color is. We cannot find the color sticker in the trunk area. Sometimes it looks red sometimes it looks orange and most of the time it looks like it's somewhere in between. If I had to pick the color off the color chart I would say it is Kasan Red or Phoenix Red. One of my friends described it as Tangerine Red, but I don’t know. It definitely hedges more toward an orange. It is one of those really great crayon colors from the early 70’s. When you see it you will remember it. Unfortunately pictures really don’t help much. The point I am trying to make here is that it is a really cool color. There are just a few dings on the car and one small (quarter size) dent on the driver side fender. The paint chipped off there and has been touched up. Amazingly it kind of adds to the overall patina of the car. Like I said I do body work and we could probably match for you if you really wanted it done. I just hate to paint it though because the color matches so well all the way around the car. I guess if you wanted to show it you would fix it… otherwise just drive it… it looks fine. The trim and rubber in the doors is in like new condtion. Indicating that this car has probably spent most or all of its life indoors. Bumpers have just a couple spots of surface rust that is hardly noticeable and the rear bumper has a little tweak in one small spot. From three feet you don’t really notice it all. Absolutely clean clean clean undercarriage and floor pans, no rust anywhere. The car is believed to have lived its entire life here in Southern California and John bought it in Palm Desert where it had spent a lot of its life. The brakes were completely gone through and the tires are in like new shape. The front-end was rebuilt and is tight. The wheels and hubcaps are chromed and in gorgeous shape. The interior is in excellent condition and mostly original. Door panels look to be original and it great shape. The seats have been recovered in a wonderful gray cloth material. I think it may be the original design but I am not a VW expert. The up close design is a tweed look. The headliner has been replaced and looks very good. The steering wheel has a straight hairline type crack right at the top. All gauges work properly. The car comes with a new aftermarket JVC Stereo CD Player with nice speakers installed in the storage area behind the rear seat. Awesome tunes. I would classify this car an Excellent Driver with Show Car potential. What a wonderful car to take to local VW Shows just like it is. It shows very nicely but is not perfect. It has a great patina to it and I believe it is just a very very original low mileage car. When you drive this car it feels fresh and almost new. There are no issues with this little vehicle. You would be proud to drive it and enjoy it everyday. Really nice low mileage cars like this with a virgin body are getting harder and harder to drive. If you have any questions please feel free to call me at any time. Frank Mattingly 949-310-6262
