Vehicle Detail
This is a nice older restoration and a great driver; a good strong running 1098CG (10cgDAH6925 most probably the original power plant) and drives very well. Good paint, not show stopping but a decent paint job, color was changed from Ice Blue to Tartan red. I've owned it two years and I have worked hard updating the mechanicals and performing maintenance and driving it every day the weather was nice enough, which made it a daily driver all summer for 2 summers, cruise-ins every weekend (where she gets a lot more attention then a lot more expensive cars!) and generally an extremely enjoyable little car. It is easily the most fun-to-drive car I've ever had. I've gone through many components; rebuilt master cylinder, rebuilt rear hubs; bearings, seals, brake cylinders, I put in a new main wiring harness with electric relays on high and low beam headlights and horn. and a lot more. I refurbished the original SU carbs and got rid of the Weber that was on it, she was much happier then. It has a Pacesetter header, Monza exhaust. I added a Crane Cams XR700 pointless ignition and an electric fan with temp sensor and manual controls in the cockpit. Electric fuel pump. Spin on oil filter adapter and oil cooler plumbed in. This winter I refurbished the correct dashboard and tried to make it as correct as I could. It does not have an original heater switch, although the heat works fine as does the blower, the switch just isn't OEM. Top is a very nice Robbins top, no rips but does have a slight stain in the rear window from sitting on the spare, they tell me you can polish that out but I haven't tried yet. Tonneau cover is very nice too. I have the tonneau bars (which help tighten up the tonneau) which are a bit hard to come by. Side curtains are in pretty good shape, not perfect but decent. Only other issue is a slight glitch in the gear box between 3rd and 4th, probably synchros. I'm in the middle of rebuilding another in case this one gets too annoying but very minor issue so far. I also have a decent set of the side chrome trim pieces that I never installed. Odometer was rebuilt and set to 0 during the restoration so the 7500 miles is since then, not the life of the car. This is quite a rare MK1 Midget; a true roadster, first year for spoke wheels and front disc brakes. 1098 motor is nice and torquey and powers the car very well. An excellent driver and ready to go. Please bid only if you're serious. On Oct-31-10 at 07:01:01 PDT, seller added the following information: I've had a question regarding the stereo. Some pictures show a stereo in front of the shifter, speakers in the rear deck. I had made a stereo holder (out of a cigar box painted black!) and propped it in front of the shifter. I had made a rear panel with speaker holes. Cheap stereo quit working and looked out of place anyway. I removed it and remade a rear panel without holes. Speaker ready rear panel is available if desired. Both are homemade, vinyl covered, look fine but not MG issue. When I redid the dash I filled in the factory knock out area for a radio (MG sent them out filled in, dealers would knock out for dealer installed radios) as that area is too small for most stereos and it just doesn't look right there anyway. Sorry for any confusion. On Nov-01-10 at 06:46:56 PDT, seller added the following information: Mileage on the odometer is actually 7900, not 7500. Typo. Again this is since the refurbishment in 1986/87, no idea what actual overall mileage is since 1963. I put on about 6,000 of that 7900. The car was driven very little between '86 and my purchase! I got it from an older gentlemen who would take it out once in a while in nice weather for short hops. I've driven it far and wide, even on the interstate it goes down the road great.
