Vehicle Detail

1966 FORD MUSTANG CONVERTIBLE 289 V-8 (C-Code) FULLY LOADED! Restoration Project AUTO, Power Steering, Power Brakes, Power Top, A/C, tinted windows, remote driver’s mirror, center console, and pony interior Did you ever hear the rumble of a Mustang’s engine pass you on the road and get the feeling of envy, wishing you had such a cool ride to show off or did it bring back special memories from way back when? People can’t help turning their heads or waving when you drive by in such a classic. Mustangs are and will always be muscle cars that are part of automotive history and personal pride. You will not find a worthier mustang convertible to restore anywhere! She needs work but if you’re an enthusiast, you’ll picture her in the glory of her day. This car has 83,206 original miles. I bought this from the friend of the 2nd vehicle (owner’s wife) who bought it back in 1976 from the original owner with approximately 9K miles on the odometer. The second owner drove and maintained this meticulously till 1986 where he took it off the road to restore it. In 1986 he rebuilt the original engine which starts right up even now! You know when you hear it that you made the right decision buying this car. Some body work on the right and left side floor boards, fenders has been completed. He also sent the black pony interior, front bucket seats and rear seat out for reupholstered and stored them so they are in “like new” condition. Sadly to say, before he completed the restoration he passed away. You’re asking why I would sell something I have so much passion toward. To be honest, it’s only because I have too much on my plate right now to restore this car as this owner wanted, so I am seeking a buyer that will honor this man’s dream by restoring this car to its original beauty. From what I learned of car’s history, the owner was a mechanic by profession. He kept a meticulous diary of all the work that was done on the vehicle. I will pass these records to the new owner for safe keeping. You will see how much pride he took in the ‘Stang” when you see these handwritten pages. He stripped the exterior paint / sprayed grey primer to prevent rusting and replaced a good portion of the mechanics on the car. Unfortunately, the mechanic’s wife threw out all of the other historic documentation. Codes on driver door: 76B R 66 24L 13 6 6 Color: Originally Ivy Green Metallic with a black convertible top and black Pony interior. Engine Compartment : The motor is your typical “C” code, 200 HP, 2 barrel Ford carburetor and the oil on the dipstick is still super clean since it was rebuilt in 1986. The engine is complete and transmission works. It’s amazing to hear the purr of the engine as it starts up. AC compressor / power steering unit / power brakes are all original. The radiator is a Modine replacement, not Ford. I installed a new battery, fully charged. The engine compartment has your typical battery holder rot, but for the most part is in relatively good shape. Body: The car is in grey primer and does not appear to have been in any accidents. The body is straight and it has the original quarters and doors. The front fenders were replaced back in 1986 and appear to be in good condition. The front torque boxes, rocker panels, lower seat boxes, inside flooring were repaired in 1986 also. The front rails have some rust and one rot through section and will need to be repaired and there is rust on the bottom of the doors (repaired with some bondo fill) and the rear quarters (original) are rusted out on the bottom and will need replacement along with outer wheelhouse panels. The hood has one rusted out spot on the hood lip and there is rust damage on the upper corner of the trunk gutter channel. The inner fender aprons have some rust, but appear to be original. The trunk needs the inner wheelhouse panels trunk floor / extensions, rear torque boxes have rust / rot and the rear sections of frame rails replaced. I do have the spare tire on the original rim. Top convertible frame top is strong but the black canvas top was taken off. Interior: The seats were redone and stored away since 1986. The pony interior door panel (only have one) needs repair/replacement and the rear seat inner quarter panels need repainting and new vinyl at a minimum. The dash was cut for a newer AM/FM radio but only about ¼ inch. The original factory Ford AC unit is still in tack and the center console that was stored away has all the parts to it to include the chrome console end cap and ashtray. All of the door glass is the original tinted Ford. I have several boxes of original and NOS parts that go with the car, including seat belts, remote outside mirror, emblems, etc. which I will pass along with the sale. NOTE: When sold, I will transfer the NJ Certificate of Title. I am not interested in trades and will not take less than the starting bid, so please do not ask. The buyer must arrange for the car to be transported, I will assist as best as I can. The deposit of $150.00 is non returnable and must be received within 48 hours of the closing sale. Upon arrival for pick up, I will accept cash or a postal money order. If you decide after seeing the car you do not want to purchase it, I will keep your deposit and release you of your obligation. The car must be taken within one week of the auction close. If the car is not picked up within this time period, I will relist the car and assume you are not interested. This will also result in my keeping your $150.00 deposit. I will answer any questions to the best of my knowledge. If you have questions I cannot readily answer, I will work with you as best as I can to help you research the answer.
